Job Summary:

Provide oversight and coordination for the research activities and programs for the school including activities and programs for faculty, fellows, residents, students, and collaborators.

Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, or science related field and five years of related experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  Certified research administrator (CRA) preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of grant and contract administration and regulatory requirements. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with investigators, team members, and funding agency. Extensive knowledge and understanding of computer systems, tools and programs. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead work units.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administrative oversight; direct and coordinate grant activities of the school; executive chair, vice chair for research and vice chair for faculty development; monitor adherence to all institutional and federal compliance regulations related to research; collaborate with the UMMC office of research, IRB, and other entities that support research within the institution to coordinate and facilitate grant and award submissions; provide oversight and administrative support as necessary to faculty development committees as established by the dean; encourage and communicate the importance of research and dissemination by presentations and publications of scholarly work in the appropriate scholarly journals; facilitate publication and presentations of other departmental innovations in scholarly journals and venues; serve as an advocate for the school of population health and its leadership in all possible venues.
  • Manage pre-award services; identify potential funding opportunities for departmental faculty and collaborators; disseminate opportunities to the appropriate faculty and collaborators work with principal investigators in proposal preparation, including technical support and budget formulation; facilitate collaborations with other investigators or departments both within the school  and externally to strengthen proposal submissions; assist with the identification of resources within the institution and externally to ensure all the necessary items are available for award success, including equipment, space, and biostatistician support.
  • Manage post award oversight and management; maintain communication with granting agencies at project implementation and throughout the award period; assist with interviewing and selecting personnel if requested by principal investigator; maintain continual tracking, accounting and compliance procedures for all awards; work with principal investigators in award budget management and disbursements; process any required budget revisions; submit progress reports as required by granting agencies; provide mentoring oversight and evaluation to investigators on regulations and grant management.
  • Manage research dissemination; track research completion and assure that results are successfully disseminated, including appropriate publications and presentations; encourage and support presentations and participation in scientific meetings; assist investigators and authors in research manuscript preparation and submissions; support scientific abstract, paper and poster preparations.
  • Develops policies and procedures for grant and contract personnel to carry out duties necessary to meet the requirements of sponsoring agencies.
  • Monitors and interprets federal and state regulations and guidelines as they relate to research.
