Job Description
Hybrid: This position requires you to work on-site 3 times a week (Tue to Thu)
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
You will be responsible for managing and coordinating activities related to the defense of both commercial litigation (class and individual actions) and product liability matters for GM in South America. You will develop and implement strategy and tactical approaches to pending litigation. You will also ensure proper case and document management from a systems and resourcing perspective, including handling of U.S. federal reporting requirements (TREAD data) and litigation hold information. You will assign outside counsel based on the nature of claims/defenses, geographic location, fee arrangement, and GM policies.
You will work with outside counsel on the development of legal strategies and execution, collaborate with GM claims administrators, discovery teams, and engineering resources on evaluating claims and identifying any engineering safety issues, and coordinate litigation matters across South America and with GM headquarters in the U.S. Timely review of case evaluations, briefs, and motions submitted by outside counsel is essential. You will determine settlement value and trial recommendations for specific cases within established processes and coordinate the selection of litigation consultants, expert witnesses, and trial counsel. Additionally, you will partner with relevant outside counsel regarding trial preparation and provide advice and counsel to the relevant GM legal teams and business groups as needed.
