Position Description:

Develops and improves database design practices using Power Designer, Oracle Designer, and Erwin. Performs database querying using SQL. Deploys efficient physical database designs to reduce time-to-market metrics using relational/NoSQL database management systems, Big Data technologies, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Develops technical guidelines and standards for data modeling checklists and maintains data repositories using Snowflake. Participates in all aspects of database design, including conceptual, logical, physical, 3NF, and dimensional designs, at both a project and enterprise level. Partners with project teams, vendors, support organizations, functional architects, systems specialists and other technical resources to gather information requirements and deliver data modeling solutions for business and technology functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Performs data governance and metadata management.
• Explains data structures to a non-technical audience.
• Communicates principles, standard methodologies, and best practices on Data Modeling and Architecture.
• Employs knowledge of Cloud (AWS), Relational, NoSQL and Big Data technologies, techniques, and trends.
• Reviews datasets to identify patterns or trends and provides valuable insights guiding decision-making processes.
• Delivers well architected and efficient physical database designs to reduce time to market for design decisions.
• Assists in developing guidelines and standards for the data modeling checklist and governance process, to catalog and maintain data repositories.
• Improves the overall analysis of business requirements.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Architect (or closely related occupation) analyzing business information requirements and delivering conceptual, logical, and physical data models, using ERStudio, Oracle Designer, or Erwin.

Or, alternatively, Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Architect (or closely related occupation) analyzing business information requirements and delivering conceptual, logical, and physical data models, using ERStudio, Oracle Designer, or Erwin.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) profiling, mining, specifying, extracting, and cleansing large datasets; and developing complex SQL queries on diverse database systems (Oracle, Teradata, or DB2) using SQL Developer, SQL Assistant, or DB Visualizer.
• DE analyzing and documenting business requirements by collaborating with business stakeholders and translating requirements into technical database designs using agile methodologies.
• DE designing efficient conceptual and physical data models using ERStudio; designing Dimensional Data Structures for data warehouses; and designing 3NF Data Structures for relational datastores deployed on Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• DE creating system data flows, design standards, data visualization, and data optimization using Tableau or Power BI.
