The Team
The purpose of the Business Banking (BB) Governance team is to enable BB leadership to make informed, high-quality, risk/reward decisions in order to achieve operational and strategic goals. We do this through providing advice and support in the optimisation and effective management of non-financial risks; providing mechanisms for monitoring and reporting to senior management, ensuring prompt and appropriate escalation; introducing efficiency and consistency through automation and standardisation; and promoting ways to create ongoing challenge.
What a day in your role will look like?
In this role you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end management and delivery of the BB Risk Committees and Sub-Committees, engaging numerous senior stakeholders across the business to ensure high-quality risk decisions are achieved. You will also be tasked with driving consistency, simplicity and efficiency into the governance framework and processes across BB. Daily responsibilities include:
Ensure the BB Risk Committees and Sub-Committees operate effectively to provide senior management with information to oversee and manage operational, compliance and credit risk.
Accountable for the end-to-end management of the BB Risk Committees and Sub-Committees, including agenda setting; pack and attendees management; and documenting minutes and actions.
Support the BB Committee Chair, members and business areas to ensure that high-quality, relevant and consistent information is provided to the non-financial risk committees, sub-committees and forums; and facilitating decision-making by promoting an integrated view of risk management across BB.
Apply critical thinking to BB governance and oversight framework to determine opportunities for improvement, to enable consistency and gain efficiencies whilst delivering best in class governance practices. For example, include identifying simpler and better ways to track and manage Committee actions, report on key risk metrics and/or surfacing emerging horizon risks.
Provide insightful business intelligence to accountable owners, governing Forums and Committees, to create transparency of risk outcomes.
Leverage business expertise and insights to make recommendations to the business for prioritisation of investments, interventions and enhancements to mitigate risk.
Advise and enable senior stakeholders to manage their risk, compliance obligations and business operations within risk appetite.
Work in an agile manner and across disciplines to facilitate rapid response to emerging risks.
Build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships across BB and influencing the continued enhancement of risk maturity.
Lead and support preparing Committee and Board submissions.
What will you need to succeed in this role?
The successful candidate will come to the business with strong technical skills and knowledge in Operational Risk and compliance. You will also need to have a strong ability to find solutions that balance the needs of various stakeholder groups. We’re also looking for:
Comparable experience in Governance and/or a related Line 1 Operational Risk role.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to think critically, analytically and strategically.
Ability to engage with and influence a large and varied stakeholder group.
Strong organisational, planning, time management and project management skills.
