Job Description:

The Payroll Specialist, on our Payroll Team provides accurate and timely support, coaching and training, for Payroll processes across our Sun Life Financial Distribution (SLFD) channel. Will work closely with advisors, District leaders & Staff, Compliance and other internal business partners to provide procedural advice and answering more complex inquiries with excellent customer service daily. Plays a key role in supporting Payroll initiatives and documenting and implementing new payroll processes in line with evolving Business and Regulatory changes.      

Main Accountabilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service and expertise through handling Pay related enquires from our Sun Life Financial Distribution channel, Sun Life employees and internal partners 

  • Receive and review questions from many different channels with a tight turnaround time

  • Ensure all requirements are met when processing requests

  • Complete audits, reporting requirements, payments to outside areas, advisors, etc in a timely manner

  • Solve complex problems requiring input from several different business units

  • Ensure advisor receivables ledger is maintained

  • Identify, implement, and document process improvement opportunities

  • Support a group of payroll associates providing coaching and mentoring

  • Act as a subject matter expert to support payroll projects and key initiatives

  • Advanced attention to detail with high level of data input accuracy  

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral)

  • Results oriented and motivated to meet deadlines

  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Sun Life Financial Distribution structure

  • Knowledge of Canadian taxation rules for self-employed individuals

  • Knowledge of insurance and/or investment products

  • Previous experience working within payroll or insurance channel

  • System knowledge of M2, EIM, and CSW

Notes/Unique Requirements:

  • Overtime will be required during peak periods driven by workload

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
