Job Description:

Manulife is looking to hire an entry level Paralegal /Legal Assistant to provide legal support for its North American Private Markets Legal Team. In this role, you are expected to have basic knowledge of corporate and/or financial or investment law and governance based on relevant prior work experience. We are looking for a motivated and dynamic professional to primarily provide legal research support for corporate governance and compliance matters relating to the management of investment entities in the United States, Canada and in some international jurisdictions and to generally provide support to the Private Markets Legal Team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete and provide supporting “know-your-client” corporate documentation and signing authorities
  • Compile Corporate formation documents and resolutions and other information and obtain signatures and support Private Markets transactions, and various investment funds for Private Markets
  • Assist in subsidiary governance by tracking filing deadlines and outstanding matters
  • Assist with the creation, review and revision of documents required to support various investment subsidiaries including but not limited to documents relating to incorporation and organization and other fundamental changes, coordinating initial extra-provincial licenses/registrations and managing subsequent renewals and updates; and overseeing annual maintenance and compliance work and general governance matters
  • Assist with updates and maintenance of internal subsidiary database records, general administrative tasks in connection with subsidiary governance matters, and general administrative tasks related to Private Markets Legal

Qualifications:


EDUCATION: Post-secondary education, or Paralegal certification or diploma, or Law Clerk or Legal Secretary certification, or equivalent
EXPERIENCE: Two years’ experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred.

HYBRID WORK ARRANGEMENT: Amenability and readiness to work onsite and from home anytime (dependent on business need AND/OR current external environment/situation)

• Minimum Skills to Hire/Must Haves:

  • Ability to be proactive and to work independently on multiple, competing and/or shifting priorities with minimal supervision
  • Focus on detail and accuracy, highly organized, possess excellent analytical skills, demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Confident to work collaboratively with paralegals, lawyers, administrative assistants and clients on transactions, team projects and initiatives.
  • Must possess a general working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe and redlining
