The Phlebotomist will obtain blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture from outpatients in all age groups as requested by the physician.
The Phlebotomist assures the proper collection of all types of samples as requested by the physicians.
The Phlebotomist also prepares specimens for analysis by processing orders via HIS/LIS computers, verifying specimen acceptability and performing established pre-analytical procedures in accordance with laboratory policy in an accurate, safe, and timely manner.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Certification as a Phlebotomist from ASCP or other recognized certification agency preferred Valid driver's license and acceptable driver's record if required to drive between sites

Experience REQUIRED: N/A
Experience PREFERRED:
Minimum of 2 years experience in specimen collection techniques (venipuncture, capillary collection, urine collection)
One year of experience in laboratory clerical and computer entry functions
Education/training REQUIRED:
High school diploma or equivalent
Education/training PREFERRED: Completion of a phlebotomy, nursing assistant or medical assistant training program
Independent action(s) required:
Collection of blood samples from patients.
Able to contact Client Services or other areas as needed if questions prior to collection of samples.
Customer service oriented communications.
Direct the operation of the assigned area according to policy and procedures.
Aid in the decision when a trainee has acquired sufficient phlebotomy skills to work without close supervision.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Assist with special projects assignments.
Additional position requirements:
May require weekend and/or holiday rotation on all shifts as patient care needs in hospital dictate.
