Laboratory Manager, as a Team Leader, provides leadership, direction and manages and develops a team of laboratory staff to ensure constant quality and reliability or the analysis conducted. He / she ensures the performance of equipments / testing / analysis activities in the laboratory, on the basis of agreed specifications or programs and global quality and laboratory strategy.

The Laboratory Manager, as a Team Leader, provides leadership, direction and manages and develops a team of laboratory staff to ensure constant quality and reliability or the analysis conducted. He / she ensures the performance of equipment / testing / analysis activities in the laboratory, based on agreed specifications or programs and global quality and laboratory strategy.

Benelux is part of the business unit Europe and Central Asia, within Trouw Nutrition business line, with 2 production & sales sites (Putten in The Netherlands and Ghent in Belgium) and a sales office in France.
For this role you can live in Belgium or the Netherlands; you will travel between the 2 plants in Putten and Gent.

About The Role

Responsibilities

Laboratory Management:

  • Develops and implements the laboratory planning, coordinate and supervise the execution in the team, in order to plan and realize the day-to-day activities of laboratory testing and reporting, and work is optimally distributed within the team.

  • Decides on contracting in/out of test and analysis work in an efficient and cost-effective manner, following the Quality Assurance requirements. Coordinates sample preparation and submission for analysis in other labs

  • Leads, coaches and appraises laboratory staff, and develop (the cooperation between) staff using the relevant HR instruments, service and procedures. Ensures an effective structure and adequate staffing of the laboratory in order to deliver results and nurture a positive and learning culture.

  • Manages on a daily basis the laboratory staff, supervises and assesses trainees. Organizes and supervises the activities and work of the team to ensure that all work within the laboratory's responsibility is carried out efficiently and in accordance with operating procedures and policies.

Optimization and innovation:

  • Analyses, (co)develops, implements, optimizes and/or continuously improves work processes, techniques and systems within the laboratories and encourages the optimization and improvement of current processes in line with policies and procedures, in order to (contribute to) effective and efficient testing processes, methods and techniques

  • Develops and introduces new analysis techniques in order to increase efficiency and reduce analysis times.

Networking and external relations:

  • Maintains contacts with Masterlab BV and other laboratories within Nutreco

  • Ensures Key user for NutrecoLIMS are appointed and provide/discuss QC analytical results with site QA managers

  • Organizes / coordinates training courses for new employees and external customers.

Compliance / Quality Assurance:

  • Assures compliance with internal and external laboratory standards like ISO9001 and ISO17025

  • Prepares and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the laboratory and ensures proper documentation of knowledge in rules, procedures, work instructions and manuals.

Skills and Expertise

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, food science, biology, chemistry, or a related field.

  • 5 years’ experience in laboratory management

  • Knowledge of chemical analytical methods and common tests in animal feed

  • Knowledge of quality management systems and certification schemes for laboratories

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Attention to detail and ability to analyse data.

  • Leadership skills

  • Dutch, fluent proficiency in verbal and written. Flemish preferred.

  • English, fluent proficiency in verbal and written.

  • Ms. Office suit, professional level
