Position Overview

The Global Logistics Business Process Lead is responsible for optimizing logistics operations, transportation management, and carrier payment processes across international supply chains. The role oversees the implementation and execution of programs designed to improve quality, reduce cost, mitigate supplier risks, and enhance operational performance. The position requires leading cross-functional teams, managing third-party logistics partners, and deploying global systems and processes to support strategic business objectives.

Dimensions and Scope

This role oversees regional and global logistics processes with direct accountability for cost, quality, and compliance. The position influences business outcomes through strategic project leadership, effective partner management, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop Six Sigma programs and supporting systems to drive quality and process improvements.

• Lead Six Sigma project portfolios to achieve measurable operational improvements.

• Integrate Six Sigma methodologies into organizational operations.

• Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, quality, and service levels across global logistics.

• Strengthen systems that identify and mitigate supplier risks.

• Lead cross-functional teams to deploy global logistics systems and compliance frameworks.

• Support financial analysis improvements for forecasting, budgeting, and cost accounting.

• Enhance contract and rate negotiation processes with logistics providers.

• Own freight payment systems and rate management repositories.

• Manage multiple assignments simultaneously under urgent deadlines.

• Oversee documentation, cost accounting, and process standardization.

• Support sourcing improvements using Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

• Ensure best-in-class data quality in logistics systems and reporting.

• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.

• Plan and monitor program development to ensure quality standards.

• Organize and coordinate teams working on diverse components of digital programs.

• Serve as a liaison across logistics and adjacent functions.

Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of the philosophy, principles and implementation approaches of lean manufacturing; ability to integrate and implement lean manufacturing philosophy into existing production and management processes. 

Level Extensive Experience:  

• Manages the adoption of lean manufacturing principles across the organization. 

• Teaches others about how lean approach integrates operations, customers, logistics and product development. 

• Consults on work cell design and plan layout in support of lean principles. 

• Consults on the use of lean approaches across multiple functions. 

• Trains others on key lean measurements and tools and techniques for measuring performance. 

 Participates in detailed planning for implementing and monitoring lean manufacturing. 

Six Sigma Methodology: Knowledge of the concepts of six sigma DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control ) methodology; ability to use the methodology to improve the manufacturing processes and control the improvements by eliminating root causes. 

Level Extensive Experience:  

 Determines critical metrics of business or process performance. 

• Guides on the choice and use of appropriate tools to measure existing performance. 

• Estimates the root cause of quality or service related problems. 

• Resolves various obstacles and problems in performance improvement. 

 Facilitates changes to improve performance in relation to costs or quality of products and services. 

• Oversees all major functions of the maintenance process. 

Desired Qualifications

• An Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Global Transportation/Trade or similar degree.

• Consulting experience

Technical Skills

• Six Sigma certification

• Trade Automation

• Familiarity with Transportation management systems, warehouse management systems, freight audit and payment technologies

• Tableau, Power BI, Python, SQL, Statistics

Summary Pay Range:

$120,660.00 - $180,900.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
