The Operations Ice Technician and Supervisor is responsible for the daily activities required to run, maintain and service the facility ice floor, as well as the Worcester Common Ice Rink. 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Supervises and schedules all aspects of operations, interfacing with engineering, building and grounds and technical services, including ADA compliance, public safety and security 

  • Oversees installation of ice, which includes freezing floor, painting base color, lines and logos, and building up the ice sheet 

  • Prepares ice for all practices, games and other ice events at the DCU Center and the city’s outdoor skating rink on the Common 

  • Removes debris, checks ice depth, scrapes and edges, resurfaces ice and maintains spectator netting 

  • Operates and maintains the ice resurface and ice edger equipment 

  • Repairs and builds ice 

  • Uses and properly cares for ice equipment, including ice resurfacing and ice edger with multiple manual controls, gears and foot pedals 

  • Ability to properly operate, maintain and drive a Zamboni 

  • Interfaces with hockey tenant, ice rental groups and the Oval on the Common outdoor rink 

  • Oversees daily housekeeping/custodial activities, set up, changeover and tear down of equipment 

  • Maintains glass and dasher walls, including quick changes to broken hockey shields 

  • Maintains ice and lay water as needed 

  • Monitors temperature and humidity levels 

  • Prepares and covers ice for events that require a regular floor surface 

  • Operates and controls equipment via computers 

  • Oversees, assists and directs employees who assist with installation and maintenance of ice 

  • Responds to visual and audible alarms from building automation and life safety systems 

  • Read and interpret documents, procedure manuals, floor plans, assignment sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions for all areas of the department 

  • Organize and prioritize to meet deadlines 

  • Obtain any licenses, certificates or training required by company, local, state or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility  

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with ASM Global’s policies and applicable lawsResponsibilities include planning, assigning, directing work, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Scheduling of employees and payroll data input

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND /OR EXPERIENCE 

  • Must be familiar with techniques for repairing and building ice around hockey goals and other areas that lose ice 

  • High school diploma or GED 

  • At least one year of experience with ice floors and related equipment 

  • Completion of accredited courses from an ice making technology school is strongly preferred 

  • Current driver’s license required 

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software 

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES  

  • Ability to work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends and holidays, as needed 

  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to all areas of custodial, event set up, tear down and changeovers 

  • Demonstrate knowledge in the practice and procedures related to ice installation, preparation and maintenance, typical methods and techniques for maintaining, repairing and building ice and treatment of water and hydraulic equipment 

  • Ability to work independently, exercising judgement and initiative 

  • Works effectively under pressure or stringent schedule producing accurate results 

  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, tenants and others encountered in the course of employment
