Position Summary
The Staff Psychiatrist will play a crucial role in supporting the mental health of our diverse health professions trainee population by diagnosing and treating mental health conditions and prescribing medication.
This role involves offering casework and group services for trainees facing personal, social, or environmental challenges that impede medical or psychiatric care. The Staff Psychiatrist will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care, providing psychotherapy to the students, residents, and clinical fellows in training programs at WashU Medicine, adhering to professional and administrative standards.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prescribes, directs, and administers psychotherapeutic treatments or medication to treat addictive, mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
- Supervises and collaborates with the Office of Education Mental Health Services providers in the execution of psychotherapeutic treatments for WashU Medicine’s learner population. Leads treatment team meetings and serves as clinical advisor to Student Health Staff Psychologist.
- Analyzes and evaluates patient data or test findings to diagnose the nature or extent of mental disorders. Designs individualized care plans, using a variety of treatments.
- Collaborates with physicians, psychologists, social workers, or other professionals to discuss treatment plans and progress.
- Gathers and maintains patient information and records, including social or medical history obtained from patients or other professionals.
- Counsels patients transitioning long-term care needs to established community-based providers.
- Schedules patient appointments and provides timely telephone follow-up.
- Adjusts their schedule for emergency sessions for patients when needed.
