World Leader in Blood Glucose Monitoring, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures glucose monitoring systems for use in both home and hospital settings.
We have a Centre of Excellence in Witney for the manufacture of electrodes and biosensors used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes. The Operations group is the largest team in the Witney facility, producing high volumes of test strips and biosensors each year to the stringent quality standards demanded by European and US authorities and our internal quality systems.
As a result of strong business growth, industry-leading product development in the biosensor business and a long-term commitment to high volume manufacturing in our Witney Centre of Excellence, we now have an opportunity for a Workshop Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group, supporting our wider Engineering team
In this role, you will play a key part in the machining of bespoke / one-off parts used within our manufacturing and projects departments. You will support in the development and production of Jigs and fixtures, as well as general machining of parts that feed our bespoke equipment involved in the production and testing of the test strips and glucose sensors. Refurbishment of exchange units from our production machines this involves taking full responsibility for identifying and machining or replacing worn or damaged parts making sure the units are rebuilt and production ready.
To be successful, you will be an Apprentice trained Mechanical Engineer, with a strong background in machining using both manual and CNC machine tools, this is very much a practical hands-on type of role for someone who enjoys problem solving while working as a team or independently. The ability to read engineering drawings and being comfortable machining to close tolerances are essential.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a small team but interact on a wider business scale. You will need to have excellent communication and time management skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
