Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

We are looking for a talented Site Reliability Engineer to enhance our observability capabilities. This role is perfect for a dynamic leader who is ready to spearhead significant projects and implement SRE methodologies within our complex infrastructure that spans both AWS/Azure cloud and on-premises systems. Your primary objectives will include enhancing system reliability, boosting performance, and integrating middleware technologies effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Middleware Integration:

  • Design and implement middleware solutions to integrate seamlessly with existing systems, improving data flow and communication.

  • Collaborate with development, operations, and business teams to capture requirements and develop efficient solutions.

  • Optimize middleware components like message brokers, ESBs, and application servers to enhance performance.

Application Monitoring:

  • Establish monitoring strategies to ensure continuous availability and optimal performance of critical applications.

  • Manage APM tools such as Dynatrace, OpenSearch, AWS CloudWatch, and Azure Monitor to identify and troubleshoot issues swiftly.

  • Configure detailed alerts and dashboards for real-time monitoring of system health.

System Architecture & Design:

  • Partner with architects and developers to craft robust system integration solutions that meet both business and technical needs.

  • Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, and adhere to industry best practices.

  • Document all integration processes and workflows thoroughly.

Troubleshooting & Support:

  • Provide expert-level troubleshooting for middleware and integrated systems, performing root cause analyses and making necessary performance adjustments.

  • Work collaboratively with various teams to resolve incidents promptly, reducing downtime and improving system reliability.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and execute opportunities for automation and enhancements within system integration and monitoring.

  • Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovative system integration and monitoring solutions.

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Inspire and guide team members to innovate and achieve excellence, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Develop team capabilities to meet current and future technological challenges.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Improve system observability and automation by collaborating with diverse internal teams.

  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders through robust reporting and strategic presentations.

Must Have:

  • Prior experience in AWS Cloud monitoring space, including the configuring CloudWatch metrics/alerts/traces(x-ray)/logs

  • Hands-on experience working with other AWS services

  • Development experience with serverless resources (Lambda, ECS)

  • Experience with integrating multiple AWS services to each other to create sophisticated data pipelines

  • Experience in using automated deployment tools like CloudFormation and CDK

  • Prior experience in working with containerized environments

  • Developed services and packaged them into containers for instrumentation

  • Performed DevOps related management actions on container clusters

  • Proficient with at least one programming language (Python, Node/Typescript or equivalent)

  • Demonstrate understanding of various AWS common architectural patterns and their performance trade-offs

Good to Have:

  • Prior experience with deigning/implementing any Observability related features

  • Experience in administering large data pipelines processing large amounts of data

  • Experience with implementing Open Telemetry standards in a monitoring and observability stack

Salary:

$74,800.00 - $138,600.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
