About the Pathway to Specialty Practice Program

At St Vincent’s, we use scholarly activities and innovation in our teaching strategies to prepare nurses for an ever-changing healthcare environment, where new technologies, treatments and areas of practice continue to emerge. We are seeking Registered Nurses for our 2025 Pathway to Specialty Practice program (PSP) who are committed to providing the highest quality of care to our patients and strive to further develop their knowledge and clinical expertise.  The PSP program includes an accessible e-learning platform, study day, and objective-based assessments.

Program Highlights

The PSP program provides clinical experience to help you achieve your career goals

  • Clinical Experience: Gain hands-on experience in various clinical settings with the support of expert nurses and a dedicated nursing leadership team.

  • Mentorship: Receive guidance and mentorship from highly skilled nursing educators.

  • Career Development: Achieve your career goals with support for articulation to postgraduate studies.

  • Specialty Rotations: The PSP program spans twelve months, offering either two six-month rotations or a full twelve months in a chosen specialty area, depending on the stream.

  • Learning Platform: An accessible e-learning platform, study days, and objective-based assessments covering essential elements of specialty nursing.

  • Acute Mental Health & Emergency  

  • Correctional Health, St Augustine’s & Emergency

  • Correctional Health, St Augustine’s & Cancer Services

  • Cardiology & Cardiac Investigations Unit (CIU)

  • Intensive Care Unit & Cardiothoracic

  • Intensive Care Unit & Neurosurgery

  • Community (12-month)

  • Emergency (12-month)

  • General Medicine & Subacute

  • Anaesthetics & Post Anaesthesia Care Unit

  • Perioperative Scrub & Scout

  • Medical Imaging Department (12-month)

  • Renal Services

About You

  • Good Foundation in Acute Nursing: You are seeking to develop specialty area practice.

  • Commitment to Growth: You demonstrate a commitment to ongoing educational and professional development.

  •  Compliance and Health Requirements: You have a current National criminal history check or are willing to obtain one. You are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or can undergo vaccination prior to commencement.

  • Patient-Centered Care: You provide safe, high-quality care centered on the patient.

  • Safety Advocate: You initiate and advocate for the safety of yourself and your patients.

  • Professional Development: You are committed to ongoing professional development, participating in training and study days as required by the Pathway to Specialty Practice program.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience 

  • Current Nursing Registration: You hold a current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA without conditions.

  • Educational Background: You have a degree in General Nursing that meets the registration requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.

  • Professional Experience: You have successfully completed a Graduate Nurse Program OR have a minimum of 12 months of acute care nursing experience. Recent clinical experience in an acute care setting is highly desirable.
