The Materials Data Scientist / Scientific Software Developer will join Enthought’s Materials Informatics (MI) Team within the Materials Science Solutions Group. The MI Team is a client-facing consulting team with the mission to help industrial materials and chemical product researchers make better, faster R&D decisions so that they can bring new innovative products to market faster. The team leverages Enthought’s proprietary technology tools along with relevant open source tools to accelerate R&D innovation.

In this role, you will participate in solving complex research and product development problems in close collaboration with client researchers and business leaders. You will develop data-driven models, AI-based decision-support tools, and automate data analysis procedures. You will put these types of components together into web-based software solutions involving GUIs, 2D and 3D graphics, and cloud computing in a dynamic team-based environment. We are looking for candidates interested in working in either Austin, Texas (US) or Tokyo (JP). Candidates with professional-level Japanese language skills will be preferred for the Tokyo positions. Some international travel to customer sites and working outside normal working hours may be required to keep in close contact with team members and international clients.

We are interested both in experienced applicants as well as recent graduates. Ideal applicants will have a graduate degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, solid state physics, or related discipline with a strong background in data science, as well as experience developing software tools to support R&D. Experience tackling diverse materials research problems from polymers to semiconductors to metals is desirable, as well as experience with both computational and experimental approaches. Applicants with excellent communications skills together with teaching and mentoring experience are also desired. More experienced applicants should have demonstrated experience developing and deploying Materials Informatics solutions in an academic or industrial setting and managing projects within a team.

Qualifications

  • (Required) Masters or Ph.D. degree materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, solid state physics, or related discipline
  • Ability to understand diverse materials and chemistry problems and then conceive of and implement data-driven software solutions geared towards a scientist/engineer user
  • Discipline, pride, and professionalism to write readable, documented, and unit-tested code that serves as an example to those who study your work
  • Experience with Python and common tools within the scientific and data science Python ecosystem
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to satisfying the customer
  • A passion for developing digital tools to accelerate materials and chemical product R&D
