In Greece we conduct business through our joint venture with the National Bank of Greece, NBG Pay. NBG Pay provides merchant acquiring services to small, medium, large and corporate merchants across Greece. Services include the authorisation, clearing, and settlement of credit, debit and prepaid card transactions between cardholders and merchants.

We are currently seeking a Senior Credit and Risk underwriter, reporting to the Credit Manager, in Greece who will be responsible for merchant credit risk analysis at onboarding and subsequent periodic risk reviews based on merchant profile, processing, business model and financial profile. He/She will also be responsible for credit risk reporting, support to Sales, verification of adherence to compliance requirements, scheme rules and credit risk guidelines.

About the role

  • Underwriting of new and existing merchants based on risk analysis of merchant specific business model, financial profile and card acceptance / acquiring processing

  • Review of new merchants to mitigate credit risk and unacceptable processing categories 

  • Quantification of chargeback risk exposure and potential collateral / reserve requirements to mitigate risk

  • Verification that ECOM websites fulfil card scheme’s requirements (card due diligence)

  • Financial risk analysis based on business model, financial statements, forecasts, credit bureau data etc.

  • Proactive monitoring of recently boarded and existing merchants (periodic credit reviews, investigations and portfolio monitoring)

  • Verification of adherence to compliance requirements, scheme rules and credit risk guidelines

  • Collaboration with sales channel, partners and merchants to advance new merchant applications

  • Various portfolio monitoring, risk reporting, investigation and oversight tasks

  • Internal contact for risk management and compliance enquiries

  • Training of partners and merchants on risk management processes

  • Other tasks assigned by supervisor /manager

About you

  • University Degree in business administration, economics, accounting or related quantitative field.

  • 4+ years of relevant professional experience in credit analysis, and/or underwriting, preferably in payments or financial services

  • Familiar with KYC and business registration processes and documents

  • Experience coaching / supervising colleagues

  • Comfortable working in a high volume, fast moving, service-based environment

  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office, particularly MS Excel.

  • Knowledge of Power BI or SQL will be considered a plus

  • Excellent command of the Greek and English languages (both written and verbally)

  • Strong time management, organisation, process / procedures development and problem-solving skills

  • Professional attitude and strong personal ethics

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

  • Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills

  • Thorough style with inherent business curiosity, logic and analytical skills
