Job Description:
We are seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse to become a part of the ASAS Health team! This position performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities in a manner that places emphasis on quality of care and customer service. The incumbent must work collaboratively with all Clinical services staff in support of direct patient services, exhibiting flexibility and a “can-do” attitude. Patient services are the key priority in this position requiring the LVN to serve as a point of contact with other internal and external departments, all with the goal of fostering an environment which promotes patient comfort and trust. The position must exemplify the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts individual patient assessment and interview and prioritizes the data collected to decide medical problem/condition and documents in a chart for the physician.
- Obtains and records the patient’s vital signs and weight.
- Aids physician with patient examination as needed.
- Performs specific treatments as ordered by the physician and under the supervision of the Nurse Practitioner or Physician.
- Reviews physician’s orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patients.
- Performs proper treatments as ordered by and under the supervision of the physician or nurse practitioner.
- Documents services performed and patient assessment findings.
- Dresses wounds, apply compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles.
- Observe patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
- Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients’ charts.
- Initiates emergency resuscitation measures according to protocol.
- Reports patient condition to appropriate personnel during each shift while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Assembles and uses such equipment.
- Collects samples and labels specimens, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
- Sterilizes or cleans equipment and supplies.
- Cleans rooms according to the protocol after each patient and at the end of the day.
- Helps with administrative tasks such as answering patients’ calls, texts, e-mails, and scheduling appointments while maintaining patient confidentiality.
- Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies.
- Responds to patient inquiries by evaluating and responding to the patient’s problems and questions.
- Confirms appointments and follows up with patients who miss appointments.
- Follows up with patients on lab results, including the scheduling of any other tests.
- Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other physician offices.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience in a medical office setting.
- Excellent communication skills at level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor’s instructions, and for accurately documenting patients' medical information. Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
- Beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills.
- Demonstrates flexibility in regard to job duties and assignments.
- Willingness to cross train within other departments within your scope of duties.
- Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
- Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
- Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions,” always demonstrates professionalism.
- Possess a thorough understanding of the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
- Bilingual English/Spanish and/or other languages strongly preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.
Education:
- Current, valid LVN licensure in the State of Texas.
- Current, valid CPR certification.
