Primary is betting on AI to redefine what’s possible at a venture fund - from research, execution, portfolio support, sourcing and more. We are currently building LabsOS, a system of agents and tools to accelerate incubation and investing. We are scaling the team to help create Primary’s internal AI operating system, as a source of alpha in everything we do.

About the Role

We’re looking for a founding engineer to architect and build LabsOS. This is the first engineering hire on the LabsOS team — a foundational role for someone who wants to shape the technical core of how a modern venture firm operates. You’ll work closely with Primary’s investment partners, Labs team, and Impact platform to automate and augment workflows across research, diligence, incubation, portfolio support, and recruiting.

You will work with a small, centralized team that’s solely focused on inventing and scaling this product. We are also designing this role for growth - we see this person developing into a CTO level leader as LabsOS evolves from prototype to a scaled product.

What You’ll Do

• You’ll own the architecture, bring agents to production, manage data pipelines, and improve our system with feedback

• Develop and deploy multi-agent systems using Python, LangChain, FastAPI, and, minimal front end to automate core venture workflows

• Architect and scale backend systems that manage large language model pipelines, data ingestion, and API orchestration

• Set the technical roadmap for LabsOS, establishing best practices in data engineering, orchestration, deployment, and long-term scalability.

• Ship fast — this role is hands-on, independent, and high-ownership. You’ll be responsible for taking systems from prototype to production with minimal overhead.

• Collaborate directly with leadership (Partners, Labs, and Impact team) to identify high-leverage internal processes that can be redefined through AI automation.

• Results focused - this role will be focused on delivering tangible and attributable outcomes for stakeholders.

About You

• Experience: 3–5 years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering. You’ve deployed production-grade agents or AI-driven backend systems at scale.

• Technical Stack: Strong in Python, with experience in LangChain, FastAPI, cloud infrastructure, and data pipelines.

• Independent: You can define technical architecture, prioritize what matters, and own feedback loops across business and engineering. You thrive on autonomy, ship quickly, and have a bias for iteration over bureaucracy.

• System Thinker: You understand how different parts of an organization connect and how to design intelligent systems that scale those interactions.

• Location: Must be based in New York City and able to work from the Primary office a minimum of three days a week.
