Job Description Summary:

This role will support the newly created Privacy function within the first line of defense, partnering with the product & engineering teams, with continual focus on protecting PayPal's vast data assets. This person will work directly with the Director, Data Privacy and the Second Line of Defense Global Privacy program to implement the procedures needed to protect the company’s data assets.

You will partner with various cross-functional collaborators across PayPal, including Consumer, Merchant, inclusive of Small & medium sized business (SMB) and Large Enterprise (LE), Enterprise services, Data Engineering, Data Architecture, Data Policy, Data Governance, Legal and other domains.  You will deliver on the highest-value opportunities to meet the goals of our internal customers, our organizational priorities, and the satisfaction of our growing network of consumers and merchants.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, an ability to find solutions amidst ambiguity, a learning mindset, and a natural affinity for business acumen.

Objectives

  • Privacy Program Deployment (First Line): Support the first line of defense program by working with teams to ensure all privacy practices are implemented in accordance with PayPal’s data protection & privacy policies, procedures & guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to understand their requirements, gather feedback, and integrate privacy practices across all initiatives and products.
  • Trust & Transparency: Ensure adherence to best practices and standards for the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of personal data used in data products and solutions.
  • Innovation: Continuously explore and leverage new technologies, tools, and methodologies to advance our data protection practices across the data lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with PayPal’s Chief Privacy Officer, Global Privacy Legal and the Global Privacy Office to implement, enhance and integrate the privacy practices within the first line of defence
  • Support the line of defense privacy program capabilities, measurements, inclusive of program processes in alignment with second line of defense program requirements
  • Support the implementation of robust personal data classification scheme, controls and overall management, while adhering to clear definitions of PII, NPI, PI, PHI, etc. in accordance with policy set forth by the Second Line of Defense
  • Support the development of First Line of Defense Privacy Procedures, Education & Training across the enterprise
  • Support the implementation of privacy controls and ensure integration into the risk management framework
  • Partner closely with product & engineering teams to conduct the Data & Privacy Impact Assessment (DPIA)
  • Drive embedding of privacy and legal requirements into our systems and processes for data handling and usage.
  • Collaborate with SLOD, Global Privacy and Legal Privacy to establish end-to-end execution and traceability for Data Subject Rights requests
  • Liaison with SLOD and Privacy Legal to ensure timely execution of Privacy Risk Assessments with first line teams
  • Lead Risk and Controls Identification Process (RCIP) engagement & reviews from a privacy perspective
  • Define and own Data Use & Ethics Frameworks, supporting first line teams in adhering to the framework
  • Drive enforcement of Privacy by Design practices across product teams

Skills

  • 5-7+ years of Privacy and Data Protection experience-understanding all facets of privacy across the data lifecycle, inclusive of personal and corporate data protection
  • Familiarity with data privacy laws & regulations
  • Strong technical acumen, being able to quickly understand technical details associated with privacy solutions
  • Strong execution skills-ability to deliver results
  • Strong MS Office skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively communicate across diverse groups within PayPal
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities with the ability to motivate in a cross-functional organization
  • Able to see the “big picture”-the end-to-end connection points across privacy, data and systems
  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages clearly and compellingly amidst ambiguity.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of a highly matrixed organization and across multiple domains. Navigate ongoing changes related to evolving business requirements.
