Job Description Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Clinical Manager, the employee is responsible for providing quality patient care and technical physician support in the performance of vascular procedures in either the Cardiac Cath or Radiology Specials setting. Employee is responsible for performing these procedures on an assigned shift and is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to "Quality Plus" standards and departmental quality guidelines, always places patient needs first.
- Performs routine or emergent vascular procedures.
- Scrubs and assists physician in sterile vascular procedures.
- Prepares the room and patient for the examination, i.e., sterile site prep and site marking when appropriate.
- Circulates on all vascular procedures, both routine and emergent, to include sterile patient prep and care of the patient during the procedure.
- Practices and maintains established safety procedures.
- Monitors patient’s vital signs and documents pertinent information during the procedure.
- Demonstrates ability to operate and troubleshoot all specialized equipment.
- Demonstrates ability to access patient information in the various hospital or department systems.
- Records and calculates hemodynamic data on procedures. Assures complete and accurate documentation.
- Schedules patients for examination; notifies x ray attendants for patient transportation.
- Assures all images prepared for interpretation with proper identification and placement in archival system.
- Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department and Vascular Interventional Unit.
- Pulls arterial or venous access lines, using proper sterile technique.
- Maintains a clean, well-supplied procedure room.
- Provides post procedure teaching to patient and patient’s family.
- Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
- Performs single suture technique for securing sheaths or catheters as directed by radiologist or cardiologist per scope of practice and maintains ongoing yearly competency.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- Completion of an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Radiologic Technology, or Cardiovascular Technology required or a diploma from a certificate program.
LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:
- Registration as a Radiologic Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and possesses the appropriated state license.
- BCLS & ACLS certification required and must be kept current while in this position (ACLS certification must be completed within 6 months of hire date).
EXPERIENCE:
- Knowledge of hospital and department policies and procedures, equipment, forms, and record keeping as acquired through the orientation process.
- One year (1) experience in Vascular Intervention or Cath Lab preferred.
