Neurophysiology Technician  - Glenview

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Neurophysiology Technician
  • Hourly Pay Range: $30.46 - $45.69. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

What you will do:

  • Knowledge and application of NorthShore University HealthSystem policies and procedures that apply to job and area of responsibility.
  • Performs routine Electroencephalograms
  • Performs bedside EEGs
  • Performs EEGs in the NICU
  • Set up and download of ambulatory EEGs
  • Participate in On-Call program
  • Performs Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response Tests
  • Performs Visual Evoked Response Tests
  • Performs Somatosensory Evoked Response Tests
  • Performs NCV Tests
  • Assists physician with EMG Tests
  • Performs Autonomic Testing
  • Assists physician as needed
  • Monitors Cervical Procedures (Recognizes relevant anatomic sites, performs Evoked Potentials, MEPs, EMGs as appropriate)
  • Monitors Lumbar Procedures (Recognizes relevant anatomic sites, performs Evoked Potentials, PSS, EMGs as appropriate)
  • Monitors Carotid Endarterectomies (Recognizes brain anatomy and SSEP pathways, performs EEGs and SSEPs as appropriate)
  • Monitors Skull Based and other procedures (Recognizes skull based nerves with corresponding muscles for appropriate electrode placement)
  • Understands the importance of optimum outcomes in relation to IOM and collaborates with the neurophysiology team (PhDs, IOM monitoring physicians and surgeon) to achieve them
  • Participates in On-Call Program
  • Monitors EEGs in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Participates in training of junior staff
  • Troubleshoots equipment
  • Assists junior techs in resolving technical problems
  • Troubleshoots networking problems
  • Attends record review sessions with peers and electroencephalographs
  • Studies for certification/registration in the various neurophysiology procedures
  • Attends seminars and pursues work-related programs independently
  • Is able to maneuver around the HOV environment (order entry, documentation and charge entry)
  • Is able to view, schedule and check in patients in Cadence
  • Is able to operate communication devices (email, viscera, pagers, phones and fax machines)
  • Is able to troubleshoot when networking problems occur

What you will need:

  • High School Required Or
  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • One (1) year experience in two (2) of the following neurophysiology areas (EEG/EP, EP/IOM, Autonomic/EMG, EMG/EEG). EEG, EP, or CNCT certification
    preferred. CNIM certification preferred. IOM experience preferred.
  • College level neuroanatomy is desirable.
  • Competency in medical terminology.
  • Must be patient, have good interpersonal skills and be able to treat patients of various ages (babies to geriatric adults), backgrounds, with and without mental and/or physical limitations with respect and dignity.
  • Must be able to work as a team player (i.e. with physicians, other medical staff, colleagues and administration).
  • High School diploma required. Graduation from a Neurophysiology program and/or Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred. Required And
  • CPR certification required. Required
