About Caterpillar Medium Speed Engines:
To be based in the MaK Americas workshop in Miramar, South Florida. Performs service, maintenance, overhauling, and repair of MaK medium speed marine engine components in a safe manner while working independently. The scope of work requires broad mechanical skills, precision machining knowledge and experience, basis applied failure analysis capabilities, strong capability to use workshop equipment, machinery and tooling including lathe, milling, grinding, cutting, honing, boring, lapping to MaK specifications. Must be able to independently read technical drawings and specifications and understand the required machining tolerances and specifications. Ability to fabricate items from steel such as custom designed tooling and fixtures. Strong capability of using precision measuring instruments such as dial indicators, micro-meters, bore gauges, roughness gauges, depth gauges etc. Also required to travel and work onboard vessels and job sites to perform engine component servicing as and when required.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Performs servicing, overhauling, rebuilding and repair of MaK brand medium speed engine components which includes machining of cylinder head valve stems, valve seat inserts, oversize valve seat pockets, valve guides pockets, cylinder liner deglazing/honing, measuring piston ring grooves, lapping etc.
Able to safely operate and maintain various workshop equipment such as lathe, milling, cutting, grinding, honing, lapping, heating, and welding etc.
Performs measuring and calibration of engine parts and components to a high degree of accuracy and identifies if the parts are within MaK reusability limits.
Able to machine parts and components and custom fabricate steel items to high standards and to MaK specification tolerances.
Performs inspection of various engine components to determine condition.
Performs basic replacement of parts and assemblies without supervision.
Reassembles engine components and carries out required quality assurance testing.
Follows MaK defined workshop workflow processes.
Performs work in accordance with MaK service manuals, maintenance manuals, technical drawings, documentation, and processes.
Prepares standard MaK workshop service and calibration reports in the required manner and submit to supervisor.
Communicate and cooperate in a professional and teamwork manner with team members, other employees and vendors.
Use basic soldering and brazing skills as needed.
Must have basic computer skills.
Willing to travel when necessary and work in the field
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE:
Must have at least 5-years’ experience in marine engine component or similar workshop servicing and repair, precision machining, and appropriate schooling and qualifications i.e. technical diploma or applicable technical training certification.
Needs to demonstrate good mechanical comprehension, machining skills and capability, and strong communication skills with technical staff and fellow employees.
Additional Information:
Relocation is not offered for this role.
Role is located onsite in Miramar, FL.
Up to 20% travel.
