Job Description:
Major duties and responsibilities
Assumes responsibility for supervising and directing activities and personnel to achieve an efficient production operation typically in a large manufacturing plant. Provide direct supervision to production and/or hourly employees such as operators, materials coordinators, assemblers, technicians, etc., with responsibility in at least two process operations (technology area) such as coating, compounding, extruding, etc. Cultivates and leads a team environment for employees by encouraging and implementing cross training programs, cooperation, innovation, flexibility and teamwork. Promotes cooperation and teamwork through facilitation, coaching and training. Reviews and prioritizes production orders. Determines what items to schedule for production, allocates work assignments, communicates expectations and monitors workflow. Adjusts production schedules in order to meet sudden demand or slowdown in customer orders. Conducts performance evaluations and feedback to employees. Utilizes corrective action to resolve conflict and inappropriate behaviors. May be responsible for coordinating/providing work direction to other supervisory personnel. Responsible for review and assessment of employee training needs. Ensures appropriate training is provided to employees on all aspects of the manufacturing processes and operations. Provides employees with proper tools, equipment and information including any changes that may affect their work. Ensures a safe work environment by reviewing production standards, OSHA requirements, and recognizing and resolving safety-related problems. Ensure employees receive training as specified. Provides effective communication to employees through crew meetings, electronic mail, etc. Completes housekeeping audit and job safety analysis on a regular basis. Participates in the site emergency squad activities. Regulates and controls cost through planning, implements Just-In-Time concepts and/or other cost reduction methodologies and efficient utilization of labor, materials, and equipment. Responsible for forecasting budgets, expenses and human resources needs. Projects expenditures for production supplies, waste control, and various maintenance costs. Authorizes payment for approved purchases and activities. Initiates cost saving strategies and implements cost reduction programs. (15%) Establishes objectives for rates and yields to reduce costs and improve customer satisfaction. Promotes quality improvements utilizing statistical process control, meeting in-process testing target values, and taking corrective action on defects and other quality issues. Works with engineers in reviewing methods of operations to improve efficiency and rates including scale up of new equipment and processes. Investigates alternative assembly/production methods. Ensures appropriate actions are implemented for equipment repair and related services. Analyzes and interprets statistical data and charts to identify trends and determine improvement plans. Communicates and follow-up on quality concerns and process/operational changes with appropriate staff. (10%) Coordinate the activities of outside interests such as maintenance, contractors, visitors, etc. Participate in various teams to address performance and quality improvements. Initiates and completes special projects. Understanding of DOT and Hazardous Material Regulations. (10%) Promotes, interprets and enforces broad knowledge of corporate and plant policies and procedures. Responsible for coordination and implementation of administrative services including time reporting, attendance control, vacation planning, overtime, etc. and that they are properly implemented and documented.

Provides direct supervision to assigned employees through leadership, coaching, training, development, allocating work assignment, review of progress in achieving objectives managing employee compensation, performance appraisals, diversity, disability, all relevant employee data, etc. Understands and enforces corporate/location policies and procedures. May manage workforce vendors and contracts.
Body of Knowledge
Position requires broad technical knowledge of customer satisfaction indices, products, processes and equipment such as coaters, slitters, reactors, reactor systems, dryers, instrumentation/controls, etc.). Advanced leadership (including team leadership), communication, problem solving, mechanical, computer, administrative, and short-term planning skills are required to perform the duties in this position. Competent in, and possess the ability to teach, the basic concepts of the theory of Constraint Analysis. Demonstrated ability to produce results through continuous improvement methodologies (e.g. statistical process control). In addition, this position requires understanding of DOT and Hazardous Materials regulations.
Education and Experience
Minimum 8 years of manufacturing experience or a Bachelor degree with five (5) years of experience is normally required to fulfill the expectations of this position.

As a seasoned professional is able to efficiently guide and supervise the work of others. Ability to create, lead, and work in a team atmosphere. Must understand and be sensitive to employee ideas and issues that may impact morale, quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely and influence changes with their crew and well as other management team members. Ensure appropriate training and safety programs are provided for employees in work unit. Provide input on work procedures and determines priorities. Regular contact with others at all levels at the plant. Must demonstrate the ability to promote positive employee relations and effective team leadership.
Financial Responsibility
Partial responsibility and control of fixed assets, maintenance, material and other related costs. Full accountability of factory supplies used within the assigned department. Understand asset/capital utilization to maximize economic profit.
