As an Automatic Equipment Mechanic, you will maintain the operation of automatic gates, doors, and lighting systems to help ensure the safety of airport travelers.GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Services all electronically controlled and electrically, pneumatically, and hydraulically operated overhead doors, high speed horizontal vehicle doors, Mobile Lounge or Plane Mate access Duncan doors, related controls for overhead doors, potable water cabinets, hydraulic ramps and lifts, baggage conveyors, and transit treads.
Performs daily, quarterly, and annual inspections and preventive maintenance on automatic pedestrian doors and vehicle security gates according to manufacturers' specifications and checklists.
Ensures operation of hydraulic lifts and ramps, motors, motor drive coupling, solenoids, and transformers.
Troubleshoots problems, prioritizing for security, safety, and inconvenience to the airlines or traveling public.
Diagnoses and repairs problems that may be caused by faulty relays and circuitry shorts in control panels or malfunctioning detectors, transmissions, electric motors, hydraulic accumulators, or drive mechanisms.
Performs visual and electrical examinations. Troubleshoots lighting controls systems to the component level and replaces components. Updates operating software and parameters of software for computerized lighting control systems in terminals and concourses.
Replaces damaged door panels, door tracks, cable drums, and coil springs when repairing overhead and Duncan doors. Repairs drive mechanism, straightens frames, and adjusts limit switches and brake controls on vehicle security gates and barriers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Four years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of automatic equipment.
One of the four years of experience must include specializing in installation, test, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of automatic equipment and systems, including electrically, pneumatically, and hydraulically operated systems.
Full performance (journey) level knowledge of and skill in automatic equipment installation, testing, adjustment, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.
Ability to rapidly acquire technical knowledge of new equipment and systems as they come on line and off warranty.
Skill in using tools, technical manuals, schematics, materials, and other equipment and guides in journey level automatic equipment work.
Ability to perform detailed analysis of data and information (schematics and technical guides).
Ability to work safely and knowledge of the safety rules, regulations, and procedures to do so.
Ability to speak and write effectively.
Skill in using a computer, computerized work order system, and time and attendance system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed as Journey Electrician (or higher) or certification, license, or training certificate related to electrical or automatic equipment.
EDUCATION
A high school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED).
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED
A state driver’s license in good standing.
NECESSARY SPECIAL FACTORS
Operates vehicle landside and airside (requires AOA permit).
Work is typically reviewed in progress and upon completion for quantity, quality, timeliness, teamwork, customer service, and other factors.
May be subject to potential hazards common to the airport environment, such as moving equipment and live circuitry. Wears personal protective gear, as needed.
Work requires moderate to heavy physical exertion (lifting objects up to 80 pounds). May bend, stoop, crouch, and work in a cramped position or work at heights of 25 feet.
May be subject to adverse weather conditions and high noise levels.
Is subject to hold-over and recall on a 24-hour basis for essential services and emergencies such as snow removal.
