Position Summary

The Cardiovascular Translational Medicine Group within the Immunology, Cardiovascular & Neurology (ICN TMDT) at BMS seeks to understand disease pathophysiology and mechanistic understanding of efficacy, markers for patient selection and stratification in clinical trials. The team is highly focused on identifying circulating biomarkers of disease severity to enhance patient stratification and aid the testing of cardiovascular biomarker candidates to support late development.

The Cardiovascular Translational Medicine group seeks a talented and highly motivated undergraduate student interested in a summer internship that offers hands-on translational research experience in a team-oriented, fast paced environment. The student, working closely with a mentor, will be assigned an exciting project related to clinical biomarkers or bioanalytical assays in cardiovascular diseases. During the 10-week internship, the student will be mentored in the development of critical thinking, translational application into the clinic, data analysis, and presentation/verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to internship translational project, which is aligned with cardiovascular translational medicine objectives, and participate in BMS student internship requirements.
  • Responsibilities may include laboratory work, documentation of experiments, literature/data review, and/or computational analyses from clinical and omics datasets.
  • Present internship project to the translational medicine group at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current undergraduate student majoring in field related to biology (computational biology, bioinformatics, chemistry, biology, bioengineering, or a related field).
  • Availability for full-time employment (40 hrs/week) throughout the internship period (early June through mid-August).
  • Must have completed 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree by June 2025.
  • Interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the willingness and ability to foster working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Prior experience in wet lab experimentation, proteomic/transcriptomic data analysis, & programming language (R, Python, etc.) is preferred.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
