As an AI Platform Lead, you will lead and evolve the enterprise AI platforms, services, and capabilities that enable BMO’s digital transformation, innovation, and responsible AI adoption across the organization. This role is responsible for driving the strategy, architecture, governance, and operational excellence of AI and Machine Learning platforms that power business solutions, customer experiences, developer productivity, and intelligent automation initiatives across the bank.
You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across Technology, Data & Analytics, Digital, Risk, Security, Marketing, Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Wealth Management, and Enterprise Services to establish scalable AI capabilities that accelerate innovation while ensuring security, compliance, reliability, and cost optimization.

Your Responsibilities Plans, prioritizes and delivers enterprise AI platform capabilities that provide the greatest business value while adhering to technology governance, security, risk, and regulatory requirements. Acts as the platform owner for AI services, MLOps, GenAI capabilities, and AI development ecosystems. Leads the end-to-end lifecycle of AI platform services from strategy and architecture through implementation, operations, and continuous improvement.

  • Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.
  • Ensures alignment between values and behaviour that fosters diversity, inclusion, and responsible AI practices.
  • Acts as a thought leader in Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Agentic AI, Machine Learning, MLOps, Data Science platforms, Cloud Engineering, DevSecOps, and AI governance across multiple business lines and technology domains.
  • Leads the development and execution of enterprise AI platform strategy, roadmap, and modernization initiatives.
  • Drives adoption of AI capabilities and helps business groups identify opportunities to leverage AI for enhanced customer and employee experiences.
  • Establishes AI platform standards, architecture patterns, governance frameworks, and best practices across the organization.
  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for AI platforms, LLM technologies, AI orchestration frameworks, MLOps capabilities, and responsible AI controls.
  • Provides strategic direction for AI infrastructure, model management, model deployment, AI observability, and platform scalability.
  • Evaluates emerging AI technologies, foundation models, AI frameworks, and cloud-native services for enterprise adoption.
  • Partners with Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Legal, and Security teams to ensure responsible and compliant implementation of AI solutions.
  • Leads enterprise AI governance processes including model lifecycle management, risk assessments, explainability, monitoring, and audit readiness.
  • Drives AI operational excellence through automation, platform reliability, security controls, and continuous optimization.
  • Develops and manages AI platform operational processes, including cost management, FinOps, capacity planning, and vendor management.
  • Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and senior stakeholders.
  • Leads workshops and architecture sessions to define AI solution patterns and enterprise implementation approaches.
  • Partners with enterprise architecture teams to ensure alignment with organizational technology standards and strategic direction.
  • Monitors AI platform utilization, performance, adoption, and cost metrics and implements optimization strategies.
  • Ensures AI solutions are secure, resilient, scalable, reusable, and aligned with enterprise engineering standards.
  • Provides technical oversight for implementation of GenAI, Agentic AI, Machine Learning, NLP, Recommendation Systems, and Intelligent Automation solutions.
  • Supports production incidents, conducts root-cause analysis, and drives continuous improvement activities.
  • Builds and promotes reusable AI assets, accelerators, frameworks, and reference architectures.
  • Establishes AI SDLC, model deployment pipelines, CI/CD standards, testing frameworks, and release management practices.
  • Recommends and automates approaches to streamline AI development, deployment, monitoring, and governance processes.
  • Leads cross-functional teams in delivering strategic AI initiatives and business outcomes.
  • Mentors engineers, architects, data scientists, and AI practitioners while building communities of practice.
  • Stays abreast of AI industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory developments, and market innovations.
  • Operates at a group and enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
  • Applies expertise and innovative thinking to address complex and ambiguous business and technology problems.
  • Drives continuous improvement and adapts platform capabilities in response to evolving business needs and technology trends.

Your Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant technology experience with 5+ years leading enterprise AI, Machine Learning, Data Platforms, Cloud Engineering, or related technology domains.
  • Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Expert knowledge of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Generative AI, Agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and AI platform architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise AI platforms such as Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Amazon SageMaker, Vertex AI, Databricks Mosaic AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience designing and implementing MLOps, LLMOps, and AI governance frameworks at enterprise scale.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms including Azure, AWS, and cloud-native architecture patterns.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and serverless platforms.
  • Strong software engineering experience in Python, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, REST APIs, and modern development frameworks.
  • Experience with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices using GitHub, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Knowledge of vector databases, knowledge graphs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), embeddings, and AI search technologies.
  • Experience implementing AI observability, model monitoring, evaluation frameworks, and operational governance controls.
  • Strong understanding of security, privacy, compliance, model risk management, and responsible AI principles.
  • Experience managing enterprise vendor relationships and evaluating emerging AI technology products and services.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, product delivery practices, and technology operating models.
  • Knowledge of technical and business environments, financial services technology, and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Ability to communicate complex AI concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
