Registered Nurse (RN) Specialist – Cardiac Registry

As an RN Cardiac Registry Specialist, you will be responsible for coordinating and managing a clinical cardiovascular database system that contains information on essential variables such as demographics, history, risk factors, operative and interventional procedures, complications, outcome and follow-up. You will collaborate with Heart Center caregivers in monitoring trends in the cardiovascular patient population and identifying clinical and fiscal variances from established patient care standards.
A caregiver in this position works 8:00am – 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Assist in the implementation of a computerized cardiovascular registry of cardiac patients undergoing treatment at Akron General Medical Center (implementation of Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Cardiology databases and NRMI).
Monitor medical records for completeness and accuracy of information.
Oversee abstracts and manage data entry into the Cardiac Registry from the medical record.
Ensure quality of data for participating registries and meet reporting deadlines.
Request clarification from physicians as necessary.
Maintain current databases and facilitate implementation of new databases for the Cardiac Registry.
Assist the Heart Center caregivers in identifying trends in the cardiovascular patient population undergoing treatment at AGMC, as directed by the Cardiac Registry Coordinator.
Monitor trends and changes in patient population profiles.
Assist with the preparation and evaluation of monthly and quarterly reports with other departments.
Collaborate as necessary with appropriate Heart Center, medical and nursing caregivers in the development and implementation of patient care protocols, policies and procedures.
Function as a general assistant to the Cardiac Registry Coordinator.
Assist the Cardiac Registry Coordinator with data readiness during submission deadlines.
Provide representation on various hospital committees as directed by the Cardiac Registry Coordinator.
Represent AGMC at various local, state and national meetings as directed by the Cardiac Registry Coordinator.
Train and assist departmental personnel in the use of cardiac registry and other computer software as indicated by the Cardiac Registry Coordinator.
Participate in community outreach events sponsored by AGMC/HVC.
Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements.
Maintain applicable certification/licensure.
Remain flexible to work in and cross train between other areas in the Heart and Vascular Center.
Serve as preceptor for university students in nursing and/or other health sciences.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current state license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Three years of cardiovascular nursing experience.
Strong knowledge of computer fundamentals.
Demonstrated leadership, communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor of science in nursing (BSN).
