Payroll Senior Accountant

The Opportunity Alliance is looking to fill our Payroll Senior Accountant position with our Finance department.  

As a Payroll Senior Accountant, your primary focus is the proper recording of ledger entries, journal entries and account reconciliations for timely and accurate reporting of monthly financial statements in order to provide financial decision support to senior management.  This position will support requests from other Administrative Departments as needed and assists the Controller and/or CFO as needed, including completion of special projects and analysis’.  There is substantial involvement with the annual audit.  You will interact with many departments and employees and will be responsible for analyzing and maintaining automated payroll and accounting systems, including communication and training for end users.  In this position you will be required to express professionalism in both written and oral communications and have strong customer service skills.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week, hourly paid position.

Regular business hours M – F.

Location: Opportunity to work remotely in Maine. Onsite orientation is required. Office is located in South Portland, ME.

*Position can also work remotely in ME, MA, AZ, CO, or NY

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and eight or more years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required in accounting and payroll processing for an organization with over 400 employees.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted principles and practices and laws related to payroll, taxes, and benefits.
  • Demonstrated, high level, knowledge of relational databases and MS Excel required.
  • Experience administrating a payroll software system required, experience with ADP highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills needed.
  • Outstanding attention to detail required.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background, child protective service check & sex offender check.
  • Must not be on the state or federal suspension and disbarment list.
  • Normal office conditions such as sitting, with occasional standing, walking, reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, typing and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • Driving may be necessary to attend meetings and trainings but is not a primarily and essential job responsibility.
