About the Role

We're a fast-growing, Series A/B EdTech company building an AI-powered learning platform used by tens of millions of students across the globe. Our finance function is lean, high-impact, and at an exciting inflection point — and we're looking for a Finance Engineer to help shape it.

This is a rare hybrid role: part finance operator, part builder. You'll work directly alongside senior leadership to run core financial processes and modernise them — automating workflows, building intelligent dashboards, and laying the groundwork for a scalable digital finance backbone. If you thrive in fast-paced environments, love combining financial rigour with a builder's mindset, and are energised by owning meaningful work from day one, this role is for you.

The position is on-site in Berlin, Germany. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

What You'll Do

  • Act as a strategic force multiplier for the Director of Finance & People — preparing decision briefs, running cross-functional initiatives, and serving as a trusted sparring partner to the management team.

  • Own and manage key financial processes: monthly, quarterly, and annual close; coordination with external auditors; and financial reporting across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Drive operational controlling, including budget planning, financial forecasting, and liquidity management.

  • Build and deliver monthly financial reporting; conduct data-driven analysis to inform growth and investment decisions.

  • Identify and implement finance workflow automation using AI tools, low-code platforms, and smart integrations.

  • Support financial modelling for growth and innovation projects.

  • Manage relationships with external advisors (tax, audit, legal) across jurisdictions.

  • Serve as a key connector between the Finance & People function and teams such as Growth and Engineering.

  • Help design a digital finance backbone — intelligent dashboards, predictive KPIs, and scalable ERP/treasury architecture.

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 1–3 years of finance experience, ideally from a Big 4 advisory firm, a high-growth startup, or both.

  • Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field from a top-tier university.

  • Strong analytical skills and advanced Excel proficiency.

  • Solid grounding in FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, controlling, and liquidity management.

  • Knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and familiarity with IFRS.

  • Experience using AI tools to automate or improve finance workflows.

  • Fluency in both German and English (written and spoken).

  • Proactive, self-driven, and comfortable navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to Have:

  • Familiarity with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Metabase, Power BI) or low-code platforms.

  • Prior experience in a similarly hybrid "operator + builder" finance role at a tech company.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: €50,000 – €60,000 per year, depending on experience.

  • High ownership and direct exposure to senior leadership from day one.

  • Opportunity to build and shape finance operations at a globally scaling EdTech company.

  • Collaborative, mission-driven team environment.

Location

This is a fully on-site role based in Berlin, Germany. Candidates must be eligible to work in Germany — visa sponsorship is not available.
