MongoDB is currently building out a team based in Mexico City to execute current and upcoming Performance Testing. This is a dedicated team to complete competitive and sales performance testing, benchmarking MongoDB against competitors. Alongside seeking experienced engineers, we are seeking a team manager/leader. 

The testing roadmap of the team will be made up of long-term strategic testing plans in order to gain more insight and build documentation on the competitive landscape compared to MongoDB. In parallel, the testing roadmap will also be made up of short-term tests that will come up in order to aid in deal support (i.e. a customer who is weighing MongoDB against a competitor); these tests come up more spontaneously and as-needed, which is why we are building a dedicated team to meet this demand. 

We are seeking a thought leader, technical expert, and most importantly, a people leader, to manage a high-performing team. This is a role that requires natural leadership skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with various teams, such as Engineering, Product, and Sales. You will play a key part in driving forward major projects, advocating for your team, implementing new processes, cultivating team culture, promoting team mentorship, and retaining talent. This role is for an individual who is detail-oriented, a strong project overseer, collaborative, a strong communicator with a high emotional IQ, and a thought leader who will set the example of raising the bar for team expectations. 

The Lead Performance Testing Engineer will report directly to a Director of Industry Solutions Team (IST).

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in programming, debugging, and performance tuning of distributed and/or highly concurrent software systems
• 2+ years of experience managing a team of 2+ engineers and providing technical leadership
• Track record in hiring, mentoring, and growing high-performing software engineering teams, experience working with remote teams and a passion for mentoring and career development of the team
• Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills and desire to collaborate with colleagues, other teams, and lead projects
• Strong time management skills and the ability to realistically assess project complexity and lift, while modeling/coaching this for your team
• Strong systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling
• Experience with performance testing and methodologies (i.e. Load testing, stress testing, scalability testing, etc)
• Experience with designing and implementing benchmarking tests
• A strong understanding and critical thinking skills in the following areas:
• Experience benchmarking 10,000 concurrent end-users in a business application with low cache-hit ratios
• Experience benchmarking complex headless applications (for example, 100,000 auto insurance quotes a second)
• Experience in simulating multi-regional deployments such as offices in NY, London, Hong Kong.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into these pipelines
• Experience with cloud platforms and their DB offerings
• Knowledge and experience with DB benchmarking tools
• B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to Haves

• Understanding of MongoDB architecture, features, best practices, etc
• Knowledge of querying /manipulating data using MQL
• Knowledge/experience of relational DBs (i.e. PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc)
• Knowledge in SQL for RDBMS queries 
• Experience with other document DBs (Couchbase, DynamoDB, etc)
• Preferred location: Mexico City, Mexico

Success Measures

• In the first month, you’ll have understood the surface area, the high level architecture of MongoDB and select competitor products. You’ll have completed your first month of team onboarding, and initiated one-on-one’s with your team members and cross-functional stakeholders. You will have begun to notate your own knowledge gaps and work with your manager on a personalized learning plan to close them. 
• In three months, you’ll have on-boarded onto the team, using resources at hand, and contributed to the design and execution of several benchmarks, helped in creating a long-term testing roadmap, and begun to help optimize processes moving forward. 
• In six months, you will have taken on full responsibility for delegated projects. You’ll have led the facilitation and evangelization of company-wide knowledge and learnings of your team’s output and aid. You’ll have developed a strong rapport with stakeholders of your ongoing projects (i.e. Product Management, Industry Solutions, Competitive Intelligence, Sales, etc). You’ll also have started growth conversations with your team members and begun to understand their longer-term career aspirations
• In twelve months, you’ll be fully seasoned, and have begun to think strategically on how to further refine team requirements, workload, roadmap, and output moving forward
