About this unit  

The MHC OR consists of 9 operating rooms including 4 hybrid ORs that both the vascular and cardiovascular service lines utilize.  The integrated PV/CV team takes care of all peripheral vascular cases (AAA, fem-pops, EVAR, angios, carotids etc.) and cardiothoracic cases (CABG, Valve, TAVR, Robotics, VAD, Transplant, Lung surgery).  In joining this team, you will be part of one of the largest cardiovascular OR teams in the nation.  Our team prides itself on taking care of the team members by offering an excellent orientation and ensuring each member is fully trained to perform their role.  This in turn ensures the best outcomes for our patients as competent staff deliver the highest quality care.

Scope of work 

Maintains responsibility for preparation of the cardiac, vascular and transplant surgical suite, intraoperative handling of instruments, maintenance of the sterile field, and evaluation of changing conditions during the surgical procedures, making appropriate responses as needed. Is responsible for maintaining advanced, in-depth knowledge of vascular, cardiac and transplant procedures both pediatric and adult surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. Integrates services with cath lab staff for procedures requiring expertise in both cath lab procedures and surgical cardiac procedures. Serves as member of the CV/PV team and be available to take team specific call for urgent/emergent cardiac, vascular and transplant cases.

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Preferred Associate's Degree
  • 1 year of relevant experience as a surgical technologist or 6 months CVT (cardio-thoracic/vascular/transplant) surgical technologist experience. Preferred
  • State of Michigan License Practical Nursing (LPN) or AST, NBSTSA, Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Required  
  • AHA OR ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 Days of hire required
