About the team

Worldpay K.K. was established in 2011 and became the first global acquirer who obtains Visa/MasterCard local acquiring licenses as well as payment gateway functionality in Japan. 


The Japan Global ecommerce team is in growth mode and our BD team is rapidly expanding. Our Business Development Managers develop new partnerships, become trusted advisors, and have overall responsibility of driving new opportunities from first contact to signing/onboarding.

We work across several verticals including Airlines & Travel, Marketplace, Payment Facilitator, Gaming, Retail and Digital. This gives the team the opportunity to work on several well-known enterprise brands across several different business models.

What you’ll own

The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving growth through the sale of products and/or services to new clients in their specific market and vertical. The role will include responsibility in developing and managing the end-to-end sales cycle from creation of a prospect pipeline to contract execution and processing of ‘live’ transactions for new merchant accounts.

  •  Analyze Worldpay's value proposition, assists in the development of sales plans and strategies including income budget 
  • Sells products and/or services and develops new account relationships. 
  • Solicits and maintains network of prospects. 
  • Initiates contact with prospective customers to sell targeted Worldpay products and/or services. 
  • Works as a member of a sales team selling assigned products or services to identified key accounts. 
  • Effective pipeline management across leads (self-generated, partner and marketing leads) and opportunities. 
  • Develop sound understanding of the end-to-end Ready, Execute, deliver (“RED”) sales process and collaborate with internal stakeholders to effectively progress deals
  • Proceed internal onboarding process of new customers - Customer KYC, Legal/Risk/Compliance/Credit review, Contract negotiation / arrangement, Boarding/Billing request, etc.
  • Demonstrates product knowledge including various solutions, markets and competitive intelligence. 
  • Prepares and presents proposals to clients utilizing Worldpay resources and tools. 
  • Negotiates, structures and closes “opportunities that meet customer expectations and Worldpay’s ability to deliver; utilizes appropriate company resources per the resources plan to provide product marketing support or specialized product sales expertise. 
  • Working closely with Solution Consultant & Implementation manager to define scope of work and deliver technical implementation.
  • Working with Marketing team, attend and present at trade shows, partner business development events and in-house events as a representative of the company 
  • Meets sales goals and objectives. 
  • Other related duties assigned as needed.

What you bring

  • Career level professional individual contributor role. Experienced, fully qualified professional with full understanding of their area of expertise.  Works independently on problems of diverse scope.
  • General knowledge of financial and/or payment solutions technology including systems, applications and banking practices.  Good understanding of Worldpay products and services is a plus.
  • Analytical skills are required to determine client business needs and requirements.  Expert problem solving, negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal) to persuade clients to choose Worldpay over competitors.
  • You will have an established track record in sales, and involvement in industry trade groups preferred.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management (internally/externally), employees, clients and public as collaboration is essential to success.
  • Ability to travel with in APAC region and internationally as required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience of working in a business development / payments role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Japanese
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Work in a fast paced, always changing industry
  • Ability to work hard and have fun!
