Leidos, a global technology leader, is seeking a Software Development Manager for our Maritime Systems Division, supporting the Unmanned Surface Vessel autonomous software development.

As a Software Development Manager for Unmanned Autonomous Systems, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team of developers to deliver high-quality software solutions. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the entire software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation and deployment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that our solutions meet customer needs and comply with relevant standards and regulations. You will directly supervise a team of Agile Product Owners, software developers, and interns daily.

You will also be responsible for implementing best practices in software development, including agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of software developers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide guidance and support to help team members grow in their careers.
  • Reports project status to management as appropriate.
  • Participates in internal program reviews.
  • Work closely with the Autonomy Chief Software Engineer and Software Leads to ensure resources are available to support the technical work.
  • Oversee the software development lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, and tracking project progress. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software solutions that meet business and technical requirements.
  • Work closely with testers, product owners, designers, and other cross-functional team members to define project scope, requirements, and objectives. Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Work with the Autonomy Chief Software Engineer to ensure the implementation of best practices, including code quality standards, software architecture, and design patterns.
  • Champion agile methodologies and practices, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD). Work with Chief Engineer, Scrum Masters and other agile roles to optimize team performance.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to develop test strategies and ensure that testing is integrated into the development process. Ensure that software meets quality standards and is free of critical defects.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges in the development process and proactively develop mitigation strategies in coordination with the Software Leads and Autonomy Chief Software Engineer. Communicate risks and progress to stakeholders and management.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends. Encourage the adoption of new tools and technologies to enhance team productivity and software quality.
  • Regularly update stakeholders on project status, deliverables, and any issues or changes. Ensure that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of project goals and progress.
  • Manage team resources effectively, including allocating tasks, managing workloads, and ensuring that team members have the necessary tools and support to succeed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Science, Engineering, or a related technical field with a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in software development and management.
  • Alternatively, a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship & Security Clearance: US citizenship required with ability to obtain and maintain a TS security clearance, as required by the position.
  • Experience managing developers using Linux and C, C++, Java as the preferred programming language.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven successful experience in leading and managing software development teams, including mentoring and developing team members.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to oversee multiple projects and ensure timely delivery.
  • Proficiency in managing and deploying software solutions using SECDEVOPS
  • Agile Methodologies and SDLC: Experience with agile software development methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or similar frameworks utilizing Atlassian software or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC) and experience with implementing and optimizing CI/CD pipelines.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on teamwork and building positive relationships.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Demonstrated ability to identify and solve complex technical problems and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data and metrics to drive decision-making.
  • Security and Compliance: Understanding of software security best practices and compliance requirements, particularly in highly regulated environments.
  • Adaptability and Innovation: Willingness to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, and the ability to adapt to new challenges and technologies quickly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Secret or above security clearance
  • Master’s degree in engineering, engineering management, or related field.
  • SAFe certification as an Agilist or as a Program Consultant or similar certification would be beneficial to demonstrate experience in managing a Large-Scale Agile Development Environment.
  • Prior Cyber experience supporting systems achieving a new Authority to Operate (ATO) is preferred

Pay Range:

Pay Range $144,300.00 - $260,850.00
