Job Description Summary:

The Invalid Driver provides competent and age-specific services for transporting patients and others as directed by EMS dispatch. They will provide basic life support in the event of a cardiac arrest during transport. The employee will be responsible for the cleanliness of the vehicles and the safety of those they transport. The employee will be responsible for lifting and moving patients to wheelchairs or stretchers as required. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Document complete and accurate information of the daily log sheet of the invalid vehicle regarding checking liquid levels, lights, tires, and cleanliness of the vehicle prior to starting each shift.
  • Safely transports patients and visitors to determine location.
  • Always ensures traveler safety by following proper safety precautions during all types of weather conditions.
  • Washes and cleans shuttle vehicles as needed or required.
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring continued occupational growth.
  • Incorporates age specific principles into job responsibilities and communication skills.
  • Maintains appropriate licenses and certification required by the state.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Plan.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • High School education or equivalency.  

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

  • Must possess or obtain a valid Tennessee State commercial license permitting the operation of a vehicle with passenger endorsement.
  • Must possess or obtain and have a safe driving record that is acceptable by a hospital insurance carrier.
  • Basic Life Support certification by American Heart Association  

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous experience in operation of commercial vehicles desirable. Knowledge of operation of commercial vehicles as acquired through three months of on-the-job training.
