Job profile

As Senior FEA Engineer you are responsible to do all the design calculations of the mining equipment structures including creating FEA models and doing design iterations to meet the required compliances as per the standards viz., IIW, AWS, AS, European / ISO. The job is about providing engineering support to Alachua within Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions in Current Product Engineering, New product Development Engineering and Order based Engineering activities. 

Experience / exposure towards mining/construction or heavy machinery industry data is regarded as a merit.

Suitable Mining / Heavy Engg Companies:

Terex, Epiroc, Caterpillar, JCB, Komatsu, BHEL, ECEL, John Deere, Tata Motors, Volvo

Good ability to speak and write in English are prerequisites in this job.

The main responsibilities are as follows:

  • Build FE mesh models in Ansys Spaceclaim and perform analysis mainly in Ansys Workbench
  • Additionally know meshing in HyperMesh and solving in OptiStruct
  • Impact simulation using Radioss explicit or Ansys explicit will be of added advantage
  • Be able to handle non-linear analysis viz., contact, geometric and material
  • Be able to assess the strength of materials, welds and bolts per IIW and Eurocode3
  • Be able to understand the applications of the product and simulate the load cases
  • Ensure the correctness/validation of the methods used in analysis, FE modeling
  • Use analytical calculations where needed
  • Be able to redesign to meet the compliance requirements
  • Be able to identify and implement the most feasible material, weld and bolt solutions
  • Simplify design for easy manufacturing thereby reducing cost
  • Strong in Strength of Materials
  • Strong in Mechanics & Design calculations
  • Strong user of design standards, safety standards & compliance requirements

Your profile

You have a university degree in Mechanical engineering / master’s in mechanical engineering or another relevant field (or equivalent) and between 7-12 years of experience into FEA calculations. You have a solid track record of validating the designing, developing Mechanical engineering solutions. You have the needed experience with relevant we see are some of the following:

  • Collaborate with product and engineering department to understand and define the job requirements
  • Reviews and recommends improvements of working methods/manuals/instructions for processes within structural compliance calculations
  • Interacts with others, also outside own team, in matters regarding mechanical engineering. 
  • Expands the knowledge base within mechanical engineering
  • Communicate results and ideas to key decision makers
  • Keep up to date with the latest technology trends wrt FEA & design
  • Use of UG Nx will be added advantage
  • Knowledge of International Standards pertaining to material and design processes
