Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:

  • Ensures all drivers and other transportation department associates are properly trained in job duties as well as safety and legal responsibilities. 
  • Develop training materials as needed. 
  • Manage driver training program.
  • Ensure maintenance of driver qualification files.
  • Proactively monitor and manage DOT hours. 
  • Enforce and discipline as needed.
  • Ensure a safe work environment that is consistent with company safety and health standards.
  • Complies with distribution procedures and governmental OSHA, Safety and DOT regulations under federal, state, and local laws for shipping and handling requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Research and develop new techniques and procedures to increase efficiency and safety in operations.
  • Conducts routine Safety and Driver meetings.
  • Create and distribute Safety Bulletins.
  • Creates an atmosphere in which upward communications is encouraged and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives.
  • Investigates all accidents, maintains an accident file, track causes and take appropriate preventative actions.
  • Safeguards transportation operations and contents through established security procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing business needs and react to those needs in a professional positive manner.
  • Enforce and maintain random drug testing program. 
  • File annual report with FMCSA. Manage driver coaching through use of in-cab video.
  • Manage in-cab technology including, but not limited to, ELDs.
  • Coordinate training for warehouse associates through PDA or other driving school.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position directly supervises drivers, jockeys, and office staff to carry out responsibilities in accordance with Weis Markets policies, DOT regulations, and applicable laws, with a focus on compliance.
