Motorola Solutions Vehicle Intelligence business, is a leading global provider of data and image analytics for vehicle location. The company’s image capture and analysis platform, which includes fixed, mobile and app based license plate reader hardware and software driven by machine learning and artificial intelligence, provides vehicle location data to public safety and commercial customers. Acquired in January 2019, this product offering expands Motorola Solutions portfolio with the largest shareable database of vehicle location information that can help shorten response times and improve the speed and accuracy of investigations.


Job Description

For our Vehicle Intelligence Product Development team, we are seeking a passionate and experienced firmware engineering leader to lead and manage our team in building embedded solutions to run in our Motorola Solutions devices. The selected candidate will be a collaborative and approachable leader skilled at balancing the needs of competing stakeholder interests, and able to crisply communicate and deliver upon your commitments. You will work within a culture that respects everyone while maintaining high standards for productivity and accountability. In addition, you will be part of the core leadership team for our Vehicle Intelligence Product Development and be directly involved in current execution and future direction.

  • Develop production quality software for real-time multi-core embedded Linux devices

  • Drive the design and implementation of sophisticated scalable multi-threaded C++ following modern design patterns

  • Develop processes and metrics to ensure the team is writing quality code, operating efficiently, and productively

  • Contribute to algorithm and system optimizations to ensure real time performance

  • Exploit Agile Development and Platform Architecture methodologies to deliver against customer needs and emerging opportunities

  • Manage, lead and empower your team as they execute on software design and development through an iterative Agile software development lifecycle. Hold your own team and partnering teams accountable for excellence while working collaboratively as equals.

  • Lead a team of 10 or more embedded software engineers

  • Lead teams from different development sites across the world, working with members in different timezones is expected

  • Develop relationships with key stakeholders within our business unit, and from other business units. Leverage these relationships to increase our feature velocity, product quality, and our solution values by products working cohesively among each other

  • Collaborate with our Research team in implementing computer vision and machine learning apps on hardware

  • Maintain and improve firmware build systems using CMake, Docker, and Visual Studio

  • Create a CI/CD pipeline, along with test automation, then guide your team to contribute to the pipeline employed to maintain a trusted mainline and streamline application feature development

  • Work with Quality Assurance team on specifying test cases for new features and areas for regression tests

  • Review code from your developers for adherence to coding standards and design guidelines

  • Mentor and foster career growth of individuals on your team


Basic Requirements

  • Fluent in English with no problem communicating and presenting in meetings using English as the primary language

  • A professional embedded solution expert with 5+ years of experience in software development leadership with a demonstrated track record of delivering high quality products to end customers

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Computer engineering or science

  • Experience with Linux, RTOS and Windows environments as well as being comfortable to work with command line applications

  • Proven experience with C, C++, C+, CMake, Docker, Visual Studio, JIRA, Confluence

  • Experience working in a fast paced Agile/Scrum environment

  • Demonstrate an ability to document and articulate system data flows and be able to mentor team members to follow same practices

  • Understanding of video encoding solutions

  • Understanding of networking and best practices for cybersecurity

  • Exceptionally organized with effective written and verbal communications skills; able to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders at both operational and executive levels

  • A collaborative and approachable leader who prioritizes the success of Motorola Solutions’ customers, corporate goals, and their team’s impact above their own interests
