The Software & Firmware Incubation Director will lead the development and incubation of innovative PC and AI software and firmware solutions. This role involves overseeing a team of engineers and technical program managers, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful delivery of scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic insights to executive management and guides the formulation of strategy, trade-offs, and decisive actions for the portfolio. Develops and implements long-term portfolio plans and roadmaps. Establishes a roadmap for transformation, prioritizes projects and allocated resources to ensure successful roadmap execution.
  • Spearheads the creation and implementation of Android software solutions for innovative AI form factors. Collaborates with senior leadership to formulate technical strategies for Android software development.
  • Oversees the definition, development, and deployment of Windows-based AI software solutions.
  • Leads the development of firmware and BIOS for proof-of-concept PC technology solutions.
  • Engages with IHVs like Qualcomm, Intel, and AMD to develop strategies, delve into technical roadmaps, and select components and suppliers that align with the software roadmap.
  • Builds strategic relationships with AI-focused startups, encompassing hardware, software, and AI sectors, to foster executive relationships and enhance collaborative development efforts.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of hardware/software integration challenges, emerging technologies, standards, regulations, and best practices to ensure the development of top-tier software and firmware solutions.
  • Anticipates and reacts to potential disruptions caused by technology advancements, market trends, regulatory changes, and geopolitical influences while planning for long-term project success.
  • Defines organization staffing skillset, capacity/HC numbers, and location requirements to meet Personal Systems technology solution commitments while operating within the organizational financial flash.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Four-year or Graduate Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or any other related discipline with commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
  • Typically has 12+ years of job-related and/or management experience, preferably in software design and development, software architecture, programming languages, or a related field.


Knowledge & Skills

  • Possesses a deep background in the full lifecycle of BIOS/firmware and software solutions, including design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Well-versed in software engineering best practices such as Agile/Scrum methodologies, code quality management, version control systems, continuous integration and deployment processes, and automated testing frameworks.
  • Indepth knowledge of key PC hardware components and technologies, including CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, storage devices, and sensors.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud for hosting, scaling, and managing deployed applications on the edge or in data centers.
  • Advanced relationship management skills with experience building, leveraging, and managing relationships with senior executives.  Proven ability to influence and negotiate.
