HOURS: Full-Time (40-Hours/Week)

SALARY: £34,000-£38,000 DOE

London Vet Specialists has an exciting opportunity for a Registered Veterinary Nurse to join their team as a Patient Flow Coordinator. The ideal candidate will have experience nursing within a specialist referral centre or managing patient flow in a busy hospital environment. This is a unique opportunity to join the LVS team to lead the patient flow within their new referral centre, offering an alternative path to a clinical nursing role

About Us

London Vet Specialists originated as a boutique small animal referral centre in Belsize Park, North London and in May 2024, relocated to a new state-of-the-art site in Hammersmith, West London. The hospital boasts an incredible location on the banks of the river Thames, nestled within the bustling and thriving Hammersmith & Fulham neighbourhood. We now have a complete compliment of specialist-led services, including orthopaedic and soft-tissue surgery, internal medicine, ophthalmology, anaesthesia & analgesia, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, neurology & emergency and critical care.

Linnaeus is a forward-thinking partnership of highly respected primary care and referral veterinary practices across the UK and Ireland, comprising some of the best clinicians in the profession. Linnaeus invest in quality practices who put patient care at the heart of everything they do. Together we provide a growing community of like-minded veterinary professionals who are passionate about what they do.

Overview

The Patient Flow Coordinator RVN will be responsible for the processing and scheduling of patient investigations and procedures within the hospital. Working closely with the anaesthesia and diagnostic imaging teams, you will be responsible for overseeing the patient flow and coordination of the day, including scheduling advanced imaging and surgical theatre use, overseeing patient accommodation availability and assessing overall capacity of the clinical team for the throughput of cases. You will also assist with keeping accurate hospitalisation records in the SmartFlow patient management system to ensure our inpatients are appropriately managed during their hospitalisation from point of admission.

This position requires decisive, clear communication and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and urgent circumstances. This is a diverse and fast-paced role, providing variation from a traditional nursing position while remaining within the clinical environment; therefore the position would suit an experienced RVN looking for a new challenge. Your work will be prioritised in the scheduling and coordination of patient flow and procedures, though some clinical nursing duties will still occasionally be expected of the successful candidate to maintain skills and support the nursing team as required. The ideal candidate will be a referral-experienced RVN, or senior level RVN with experience coordinating flow through a busy hospital environment.

The interview process will consist of a first-stage interview via Microsoft Teams, followed by a day on-site for a second-stage interview, facility tour and morning shadowing our Head of Nursing Services, Ryan who currently manages our patient flow, to provide a clearer understanding of what this role entails

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient scheduling and coordination of patient flow through all services and areas of the hospital, including advanced imaging and surgical theatre use.

  • Participate in daily scheduling rounds to plan for the day ahead with the clinical teams.

  • Demonstrate effective communications with clinicians and the nursing team to coordinate workflows for the day-to-day running of the clinical service and ensure efficient patient flow throughout the hospital.

  • Ensure SmartFlow records accurately reflect admission paperwork and are completed appropriately at point of check-in.

  • Prevent the occurrence of delays by forward planning and communicating with all stakeholders across the practice. Where delays are unavoidable ensure prompt communication with clinicians involved and offer alternative solutions where possible.

  • Triage urgent and emergency referrals to provide insight on capacity within the team to accept and process these cases appropriately and efficiently.

  • Plan daily caseloads in advance to ensure scheduling of surgical theatres, imaging suites and anaesthesia personnel can be maximised while not compromising patient safety or team capacity.

  • Ensure accurate record keeping is undertaken, especially regarding anaesthetic and hospitalisation records in SmartFlow.

  • Work closely with the HoNS and Lead Nurses to ensure strong clinical and operational performance within the nursing team.

  • Participate in team briefings and meetings to ensure effective and efficient communication.

  • Take part in team reflections of incidents and near misses, to continually improve our patient care and safety, including Halo reporting.

  • As a cat-friendly clinic, you will support the International Society of Feline Medicine (ISFM) cat-friendly standards across the hospital.

  • As a dog-friendly clinic, you will support the Dogs Trust and British Veterinary Behaviour Association (BVBA) dog-friendly standards across the hospital.

  • Help within the capabilities of an RVN in a clinical aspect when needed to ensure and prioritise our commitment to a high quality of patient care. You will not be expected to fulfil advanced skills but may be asked to assist with standard nursing task
