The iOS Customer Media Experience team is re-imagining the home tour experience, giving people the feeling of being there from the convenience of their phones or computers. Using groundbreaking technologies, the CMX team works across product, research, engineering, and business to enable people to walk through a home and interact with our AI chat. About the role

The Customer Media Experience mobile team is an Android and iOS team who builds innovative solutions for the best shopping experiences for our home shoppers and real estate agents. We are looking for an iOS principal engineer with a strong technical background to help build premium features. As a principal developer, you will help define architectural direction, craft amazing user experiences, and drive features forward across multiple teams. Our ideal candidate is a great teammate, who is passionate about technology, and is excited to deliver value to customers. You'll contribute to a high-impact project that reaches millions of users, shaping their experience in exploring and evaluating homes.

You will get to:

  • Collaborate across the stack to help define and architect efficient and reliable features in the Zillow Mobile apps

  • Work with Product Managers, and UX designers for product feature prioritization, estimation, and planning.

  • Review with peers in the team and cross-team to deliver best-in-class code quality.

  • Own mobile features that deliver critical values to Zillow's partners.

  • Identify, scope, and lead complex, strategic projects with wide impact across the company.

  • Design the systems necessary to expand our suite of products while balancing speed-to-market and scalability for customer-facing features.

  • Work multi-functionally to align technical initiatives and decisions, including product, design, and other engineering teams.

  • Drive the continued development of a long-term technical strategy for iOS.

  • Apply technical expertise to decision making and architecture, demonstrating an analytical approach to identifying constraints and developing effective solutions.

  • Tackle hard engineering and user experience problems, solving them in an elegant and seamless manner.

  • Identify gaps in our systems, design solutions, and help steer the execution of the solution.

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $186,700.00 - $298,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • Minimum educational requirement is a BS or equivalent experience in Computer Science/EE/STEM, along with 7+ years of relevant experience. 

  • Strong OO programming experience: Swift, Objective-C.

  • Expert in software development domain and principles, including design patterns, code structure, programming languages, continuous integration, and deployment architecture.

  • Experience in setting technical direction, planning, and successfully completing large projects that involve multiple teams. 

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across teams and organizations.

  • Ability to lead and work closely with other engineers and individuals in BE roles, product, and design, across various fields and subject areas.

  • Ability to break down complex projects into components or achievements that can easily be picked up by other engineers.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Experience with Agile development processes.

  • Experience working on apps released on the app store

  • Experience with unit testing/automated tests.

  • The ability to work in a fast, agile, and flexible environment with frequent change.

  • Ability to mentor and coach Jr developers.
