Position Overview:

AGI is seeking an experienced and highly motivated GSE Mechanic Manager to lead our Ground Support Equipment (GSE) maintenance team at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. This role requires a hands-on leader to oversee the maintenance and repair operations, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, and optimize equipment functionality to support our ground service operations. The ideal candidate will bring a strong mechanical background, proven leadership experience, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of GSE mechanics, ensuring high performance and accountability for meeting service and maintenance standards.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Direct the preventive and corrective maintenance of a wide range of ground support equipment, including tugs, belt loaders, forklifts, de-icers, and fuel trucks.
  • Operational Efficiency: Plan and schedule daily maintenance operations to minimize equipment downtime and maximize efficiency for on-time ground operations.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to industry safety standards, OSHA regulations, and AGI's internal policies, creating a culture of safety awareness.
  • Inventory & Budget Management: Oversee parts inventory, maintain maintenance budgets, and coordinate with procurement for timely ordering of essential supplies and equipment parts.
  • Troubleshooting & Problem Resolution: Act as the primary technical expert, diagnosing complex mechanical issues and guiding mechanics through repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Training & Development: Provide ongoing training and performance evaluations to the mechanic team, fostering skill development and a commitment to quality service.
  • Reporting & Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, generate reports, and communicate regularly with senior management on operational status and performance.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED required; additional technical certifications in automotive or diesel mechanics or related fields preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in ground support equipment maintenance or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems related to GSE.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and maintenance software.
  • Other Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license and, if required by airport regulations, the ability to obtain an airport driving permit.
    • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced airport environment with variable schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively lead teams and coordinate with other departments.
