Introduction to the team 

The Analytical Relational Data Warehouse team is part of Expedia’s Data and AI organization. The team is looking for a Platform Cloud Engineer to help with building platform solutions. This Engineering team manages the largest relational data warehouse at Expedia that hosts Booking, Loyalty, Finance, clickstream and other partners’ data. Our team is looking for a curious individual who is passionate about working on large scale data projects while managing highly available, scalable, and reliable data platforms. This position offers a unique opportunity for you to build and develop platform services to support cloud-native database technologies hosted on AWS to get firsthand experience on how the raw data gets transformed into decisive analytics to help drive the business. 

 

 

In this role, you will:  

  • Develop software in a team environment of at least 6 engineers (agile, version control, etc.) 

  • Built and maintained a software project/product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure 

  • Understands moderately complex systems 

  • Understands testing and monitoring tools 

  • Debugs and troubleshoot applications 

  • Understands how team goals fit a business needs 

  • Design systems on AWS that are highly available, scalable, secure and performant. 

 

 

 

Experience and qualifications:  

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or Engineering or related technical field; or equivalent professional experience 6+ years of software development experience 

  • Familiar with AWS cloud technologies and platform offerings for EC2, storage and automations 

  • Strong Python and Java coding experience required for data engineering and system automation work 

  • Infrastructure automation using Terraform and Ansible 

  • Thorough understanding of Linux administration and ability to write bash shell scripts 

  • Working knowledge of GIT code repositories, containerizations and Kubernetes orchestration 

  • Familiar with airflow/run deck job schedulers 

  • Thorough understanding of ETL solutions 

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $137,500.00 to $192,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $220,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
