Manager – Challenge Golf Program

The Challenge Golf Program is a tremendous facility and program offering community benefit to disabled golfers, individuals rehabilitating from injury, youth groups, community organizations, and able-bodied golfers. This program uses golf to provide recreational therapy to patients of all ages recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries, brain trauma and neuromuscular disorders. 


A caregiver in this position works 8:00AM – 8:00PM.  


A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide administrative control of all operating functions of the Challenge Golf Program. 

  • Provide golf instruction to both able bodied and physically/mentally challenged golfers 

  • Work in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy staff to assist patients with golf related activities as part of or as an adjunct to their rehabilitation and functional progression. 

  • Coordinate the planning, promotion, scheduling, staffing, and instruction of Challenge Golf group activities for both able bodied and physically/mentally challenged persons. 

  • Manage the daily operations of the Challenge Golf facility, driving range, and golf course including retail golf sales and all other Challenge Golf activities. 

  • Always ensure appropriate staffing per the needs of the Challenge Golf Program and in accordance with Cleveland Clinic Akron General policies.  

  • Be responsible for hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and all other relevant human resource management functions for Challenge Golf staff. This also includes developing and maintaining staffing schedules for both paid staff and volunteers. 

  • Manage the volunteer staff of the Challenge Golf program in accordance with Cleveland Clinic Akron General policies and training guidelines.  

  • Be responsible for the recruitment, retention, and scheduling of volunteers. 

  • Ensure the security and protection of assets including but not limited to cash, inventories, buildings, equipment, and golf course property. 

  • Ensure timely financial accountability and management of Challenge Golf Course deposits and payments per Cleveland Clinic Akron General policies. 

  • Maintain all required business sales records, program files, and Challenge Golf program statistics. 

  • Maintain and delegate appropriate responsibilities for the maintenance, health and playability of the Challenge Golf course and driving range. 

  • Work with the Cleveland Clinic Philanthropy department on all fundraising and philanthropy associated projects and events that may include golf events, grant applications, donor presentations and other activities designed to raise money for the Challenge Golf program.  

  • Maintain memberships in selected golf and related trade associations.  

  • Attend meetings and seminars as appropriate to keep current of the golf industry. 

  • Ensure compliance of the Challenge Golf program with all applicable laws and regulations. 

  • Attend Cleveland Clinic Akron General Rehabilitation and Sports Therapy Clinical Manger meetings on at least a quarterly basis.   

  • Actively participate on the CCRST leadership team. 


Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • "PGA Professional” certification from the PGA.  

  • Three to four years of relevant experience.  

  • Previous golf instruction experience.  


Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.  

  • Knowledge of turf, grass and/or golf course maintenance.  

  • Business management experience.
