Hogan Lovells Brussels offers a friendly and multicultural working environment. You will work with a number of lawyers in the Brussels office, giving you scope to experience a variety of different areas of EU competition law.

The ACER team in Brussels is typically involved in advocacy with the European Commission and before the EU Courts on behalf of international companies, as well as assisting major international clients regarding multi-jurisdictional mergers, world-wide cartel investigations, cross-border issues and alleged abuse of a dominant position. As a trainee, typical tasks/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:


● Assisting with tasks such as drafting, advisory work, preparing merger filings, research, document reviews for investigations.
● Responding to queries from lawyers quickly and efficiently and assisting with the collection, drafting, maintenance, automation and updating of legal documents.
● Researching, monitoring and analysing legal, market and industry developments and trends, considering how they will affect the group's practice and its clients.
● Drafting, coordinating, and providing the legal research and legal technical content needed to produce such products as client alerts, pitches, current awareness updates, webinars, seminars, article submissions, public consultations and other publications submissions and opportunities to pitch to the press.
● Attending talks and conferences on various areas of competition law.

● Committed to a career in EU competition law at the highest level.
● Excellent academic credentials, ideally with a postgraduate degree in EU law.
● A qualified lawyer or in the process of obtaining your qualification (please explain your plans if you are not already qualified).
● Previous experience in another competition practice, in Brussels or elsewhere, or at the EU institutions, is an asset.
● Highly developed organisational ability who can effectively prioritise and manage time.
● Enthusiastic, self-starter and resilient; you are able to work under pressure and remain focused.
● Proactively takes ownership of projects and tasks and progresses them independently.
● Dedicated to quality, teamwork, and adherence to the highest ethical, professional, and client standards.
● Able to leverage available resources, show sound judgment and attention to detail.
● Fluent in both written and spoken English. Additional languages are a strong asset.
