ABOUT THE ROLE

The Health Strategy Consulting Leader is a client leader, partnering with consulting teams and design teams to source, pre-position, pursue and deliver projects that plan for the future of health in healthcare and social service organizations, public agencies, private facilities, schools, community colleges, and/or universities. This role reports to Blue Cottage of CannonDesign Executive Leadership and will have close and frequent collaboration and coordination with Health Market Leaders, Health Practice Leaders, consultants focused on Technology and Digital, and others across the firm.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Build a portfolio of robust and successful consulting engagements by Identifying & sourcing strategic consulting opportunities that leverage Blue Cottage and CannonDesign services in the health strategy and innovation industry space. You will be expected to innovate and bring value and benefit our clients, with a specific focus on complex strategy projects that may require deep knowledge and expertise in health policy, clinical technology, prototyping of new processes or patient-centric technology, and health system redesign strategy.
  • Identify, establish and nurture meaningful, long-term relationships with clients and internal partners through excellence, integrity, and reliability and in a way that grows the consulting practice and elevates the brand, while making measurable, living-centered impact
  • Develop service capabilities and tools that provide long term recurring value to our practice and our clients, leveraging research and evidence-driven solutions
  • Provide oversight and lead high-performing teams from pre-positioning to pursuit to close, across Blue Cottage pillars including strategy, planning, complex program management, and digital innovation. Development of budgets, teams, workplans, implementation plans, and project management are essential skills that you must be able to demonstrate, as well as support and train others.
  • Develop and implement health market initiatives and client development strategies, in collaboration with Blue Cottage pillar leads and CannonDesign health practice leaders. You will be expected to drive, and not simply support others efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison and represent Blue Cottage in planning meetings, leadership meetings, and collaborative efforts. Work to create new methods for collaboration and integration, project tools and processes (specifically toward improvement of communication and coordination between consulting and design teams).
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs, the issues they face, and partner with Blue Cottage and CannonDesign leaders to expand services within the health market. You will wow our clients through fantastic work and continue to differentiate our service offering in the marketplace.
  • Build on our living-centered design mindset and capabilities as a firm, allowing our approach to problem solving to be deeply embedded in human-centered strategies that reflect community impact, social impact, operational needs and financial parameters.
  • Manage consulting teams, reviewing project performance, team member utilization, tracking project budget, and coaching team members along the way based on project performance metrics and opportunities identified.
  • Create work plans including project staffing (i.e. aligning the right talent with the right task / activities / opportunity), project approach, fee optimization, and resource requests. Lead and engage in the entire pursuit continuum.
  • Lead and/or support planning for both small and large-scale projects across various multi-year and multi-phased efforts.
  • Capitalize upon your existing network and our client base and experience and expand the business potential and profile (brand) of the firm by pre-positioning Blue Cottage for opportunities. Sourcing new work and winning new engagements is a key success factor for this role.
  • Build and share your subject matter expertise through industry networking, thought leadership, and engagement leadership, balanced with leading and delivering project work
  • Provide direction and leadership on pursuits and proposal development, including the scoping of the potential opportunities, team design, approach development, and overarching proposal execution and oversight.
  • You will be expected to develop bespoke solutions to ambiguous and complex problems. Some of these may include technology solutions, development of software as a solution or service, and creation of highly technical road maps for premier healthcare organizations.
  • Significant travel is required, as necessitated by clients and your role. Prior experience and demonstrated success as a founder or leader in a health-related start-up is a plus.

BASELINE CORE METRICS

This role has minimum requirements for satisfactory performance that include achievement of 10% year-over-year service line growth and minimum 15% profitability for projects. The person in this role is expected to secure a minimum net-signed fee of $2.0M for Blue Cottage specifically, secured individually, and to contribute to team and firm-wide wins as well. Firm level involvement in initiatives, leveraging of a personal network for elevation of our national brand and presence is expected. Leading pre-positioning, sourcing, and pursuits, as well as people & cultural leadership are required.

ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15 years of experience in consulting, operations, or leadership applied in the health strategy, operations, or innovation (start-up) setting, preferably in a mix of hospital and consulting settings.
  • Master's or advanced degree required.
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of strategy, innovation, software development and launch in healthcare-related space.
  • Ability to manage the political nature of high investment projects, especially complex strategic planning.
  • Executive presence and demonstrated business acumen.
  • Acumen and ability to contribute to financial feasibility studies for strategic planning implementation cost and resource estimation.
  • Business Development experience and proven ability to leverage wide professional network of individuals that will help communicate our value and grow our brand and revenue.
  • Ability to manage a team and understanding of the business model of consulting including consulting workplans, strategic pursuits, management of consulting P/L, understanding of project margin optimization, quality control of deliverables, etc.
  • Commitment to exceptional work in every single interaction, every single day.
  • Extensive travel is required.

The salary range for this position is $156,400 to $195,500 annually. This salary range is the range we believe is the anticipated range of possible base compensation at the timing of the posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the anticipated salary range for the position. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
