POSITION OVERVIEW
BDC Capital is the investment arm of BDC that acts as a strategic partner to Canada's most innovative and high potential companies.
Growth and Transition Capital provides subordinated debt, mezzanine and quasi-equity to support companies that need patient and flexible financing solutions, primarily for growth capital, change of ownership or to purse an acquisition.
The Director, Growth & Transition Capital (GTC) responsibilities include: 1) originate, evaluate, and underwrite financing and investment opportunities that are consistent with BDC Capital investment criteria. 2) actively monitor, develop, and implement portfolio risk management strategies. 3) proactively develop and implement value added plans including but not limited to leveraging external and internal resources to support portfolio clients in the achievement of their goals.
CHALLENGES TO BE MET
Originate financing and investment opportunities through rigorous business development activities
Analyze, evaluate, and recommend complex financing and investment opportunities using innovative financing structures
Lead the due diligence process and the underwriting of loans that meet BDC Capital's investment criteria
Monitor investments and manage portfolio risk post closing to exit through well-timed and articulated portfolio administration (amendments, repayments, quarterly/annual reviews, risk evaluation)
Take responsibility for the individual planning process by creating and implementing an individual marketing plan
Build relationships with entrepreneurs, associations, influencers, banks and co-investors to raise public awareness through proactive marketing and promotion of BDC and BDC Capital offerings
Maintain a Personal Development plan identifying and addressing areas of professional development
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field (MBA an asset)
Professional designation is an asset but not required (CPA, CBV and/or CFA)
5+ years of progressive lending experience with responsibilities for new transaction origination, client management, and portfolio management
Prior subordinated debt or mezzanine experience is an asset but not required
Proven business development skills and results
A highly developed professional network
Demonstrated negotiation and deal making skills
Robust financial analysis, risk assessment and financial modeling and forecasting abilities
Sound financial, credit, and investment judgement
High attention to detail and accuracy
Strong collaboration, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Complex problem solving skills
