A registered nurse with expertise in nursing education who: influences professional role competence and professional growth of nurses in a variety of settings, supports lifelong learning of nurses and other healthcare personnel in an environment that facilitates continuous learning, and fosters an appropriate climate for learning and facilitates the adult learning process while functioning within the framework of achieving the strategic goals of University Medical Center and Nursing Services. Assist Director and Assistant Director as needed. Has a working knowledge of organizational and nursing policies.


JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Proficient level of clinical competence in assigned clinical area
• Completion of all required education activities
Responsible for staff education for Intuitive robots across all UMC campuses Coordination of surgery schedule (in cooperation with surgery leadership)
Coordination with SPD and MM staff for instruments and supplies

- Orientation Program
• Projected orientation hours
• Oversees orientation process
• Evaluates orientation program
• Complies with clinical instructor participation standards
• 90 Day Evaluations
• Coordinates successful orientation program from in-processing to assimilation. Communicates
regularly with orientees and preceptors. Ensures timely progression of orientation process and
evaluations.

• Utilizes the annual needs assessment to plan educational inservices. Maintains required
documents in education files. Promotes accountability for timely completion of mandatory
education. Prepares staff for DNV and other accreditation visits. Plans and organizes annual
competency fair.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
• 3 years of professional nursing experience
• Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in the specific clinical area.
• Supervisory experience desired


REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS:

Current RN licensure from Texas State Board of Nursing or holds a recognized compact state licensure


SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Age specific knowledge is required when needed for appropriate patient care. Must be able to employ adult learning strategies in relation to educational activities. All Clinical Instructors are responsible to provide BLS. BLS instructor status is required. Instructor status is required in: NRP, PALS, ACLS to correlate with staff nurse requirements in each unit.


INTERACTION WITH OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND OTHER RELATIONSHIPS:

This position must interact closely with the medical staff and other ancillary areas in order to facilitate a quality multidisciplinary approach to patient care.


PHYSICAL CAPABILITIES:

Work is of medium demand; walking, sitting and standing most of the time while on duty. Occasional lifting of patients with assistance is required. Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills required. Talking and hearing is essential in instructing and supervising of nursing personnel and in receiving doctor's orders and patient's condition reports. Near visual acuity required to work with charts and records and to observe patients.


ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated building. Hours may vary to accommodate needs in the department as prescribed by the philosophy of the hospital. Exposure to blood borne pathogens is high risk.
