Staff Manufacturing Engineer in the Ride & Show Mechanical group at Walt Disney World. You will serve as the organization's technical authority for manufacturing, welding, machining, and fabrication processes supporting primarily Walt Disney World. This role provides strategic technical leadership across design, manufacturing, quality, and sustaining to ensure safe, reliable, manufacturable, and cost-effective solutions. The Staff Manufacturing Engineer establishes manufacturing standards, mentors’ engineers, drives process innovation, and influences critical design decisions throughout the design process.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for manufacturing, welding, machining, fabrication, heat treating, plating and assembly processes.

  • Provide design-for-manufacturability (DFM) reviews throughout engineering design process.

  • Establish and maintain manufacturing engineering best practices, standards, and specifications.

  • Provide technical leadership for complex fabrication challenges involving weldments, structural systems, machined components, and assemblies.

  • Develop fabrication strategies, tooling concepts, fixtures, and manufacturing plans supporting production and Sustaining efforts.

  • Provide expertise in weld sequencing, shrinkage prediction, bend allowances, flat pattern development, and machining operations.

  • Support development, review and revision of engineering documentation including fabrication drawings, weld details, machining drawings, and manufacturing work instructions.

  • Provide technical guidance regarding non-conforming materials and products.

  • Partner with Quality Assurance to determine root causes and corrective actions.

  • Lead process improvement initiatives that enhance safety, quality, throughput, and cost efficiency.

  • Support qualification and auditing of internal and external fabrication suppliers.

  • Evaluate emerging manufacturing technologies, materials, equipment, and fabrication processes.

  • Mentor engineers and technical staff in manufacturing methods, fabrication standards, and engineering best practices.

  • Develops and maintains manufacturing-ready packages supporting fabrication operations.

  • Maintains configuration control and technical accuracy of manufacturing documentation and CAD models.

  • Supports Quality Assurance with requirements for qualifying Welders and Welding Procedures.

Basic Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering experience involving design, fabrication, manufacturing, or sustainment of heavy equipment, industrial machinery, structural systems, or related products.

  • Proven design and production experience in castings, forgings, sheet metal and stampings.

  • Proven experience in design and production of weldments and weld fixtures.

  • Proven in-depth machine shop experience.

  • Proven experience in NDT techniques and application.

  • Demonstrated experience/expertise dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5 including GD&T.

  • Demonstrated experience developing and reviewing Weld Procedure Specifications and Welding Performance Qualification Records per AWS D1.1, D1.2, and D1.6.

  • Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills to audiences at executive, peer and supporting levels.

  • Demonstrated experience successfully completing multiple, concurrent, engineering tasks and projects.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and influence engineering decisions across multiple organizations without direct authority.

  • Demonstrated experience partnering across multiple disciplines and organizations while managing expectations of diverse stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Engineering and Design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing classical and/or computer-based engineering analysis utilizing hand calculations, FEA software (ANSYS preferred) and/or MathCAD.

  • Proven experience utilizing design standards including AWS, DIN, ASTM, SAE and ASME standards.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office software including Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven active, or ability to obtain, Professional Engineer license in Florida.

  • Minimum three (3) years proven experience with Disney design standards or equivalent applicable codes and standards such as ASTM F24.

  • Demonstrated experience in engineering design involving fiberglass and other composite materials.

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining technical proficiency through continuing technical education and training.

  • Proven ASME or AWS or equivalent society membership.

  • Proven AWS Certified Welding Inspector.

  • Experience evaluating and qualifying fabrication suppliers and manufacturing partners.

  • Experience working within regulated environments where compliance, safety, and operational reliability are paramount.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Materials Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university is required.

  • Master’s degree in Engineering is preferred.

The hiring range for this position in Orlando, FL is $110,000.00 to $147,500.00 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
