About the Role

You are an experienced, dedicated and passionate mental health clinician, looking to make a real difference, not only in our community but also by leading and developing a fast growing team.

You will be either an experienced Psychologist, Social Worker, Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist specialising in Mental Health.

You are an extremely motivated clinician who has experience and passion to facilitate and develop group programs and are comfortable working with health consumers whom present with varying conditions and psycho-social stressors.

At your core, you are also a leader, who relishes in developing and growing a team and working to create processes and procedure to ensure optimum efficiency.

The Group Program and Brief Interventions Team Leader supports the ongoing development and delivery of the service  including groups programs and one to one brief interventions across a variety of domains.

The position also provides high level clinical expertise in relation to psychological and group interventions for consumers presenting with multiple complex problems including serious mental illness, co-morbid high prevalence disorders, associated social relationship issues, everyday living skill needs and dual diagnosis, supporting other clinicians in the delivery of high quality mental health care.

  • Lead the Group and Brief Interventions Program
  • Evaluate programs
  • Facilitating and supporting clinical staff in developing skills in group programs
  • Work collaboratively with managers across various sites/clinics to ensure a streamlined service to consumers
  • Lead service development and quality Improvement activities relating to Group and Brief Interventions Program
  • Support expansion of the program with new roles and staff
  • Provide Leadership in performance review and development
  • Monitor key monthly performance indicators for the program and reporting back to the manager
     

Classifications for this position will range from

  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 4 NP75 - NP77 ($112,465 - $121,113 per annum)
  • OT/SW Grade 3 YB24 – YB27 or YC46 – YC49 ($101,597 - $116,074 per annum pro rata)



Your Contribution

  • 5 years' mental health experience within your discipline
  • Eligible for registration within your disciplinary requirements
  • Experience in developing and evaluating group programs
  • Strong group facilitation experience
  • A valid Nationally Coordinated National Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

1.LOCAL WORK ENVIRONMENT

St. Vincent’s Mental Health (SVMH) provides high quality, recovery-oriented services across an adult area mental health service for the inner city areas of Yarra and Boroondara.  The service utilises the Strengths Model of recovery and this model is embedded across all parts of the mental health service. St Vincent’s is also committed to the development of a strong peer support workforce. The adult mental health service components are: The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), the 44 bed Acute Inpatient Service (AIS) located on the St. Vincent’s Hospital site, the North Fitzroy PARC and two community mental health services (CMHS) at Hawthorn (Hawthorn CMHS) and East Melbourne (Clarendon CMHS). Community mental health services comprise the Triage and Crisis assessment and Treatment (CAT) service, Continuing Care (CCT), Mobile Support and Treatment (MST) and Homeless Outreach (CHOPS) services.  The Primary Intervention and Care Team (PICT) includes Primary Mental Health, Extended Triage and HOPE (Suicide Prevention). A Consultation & Liaison Service is provided to the health service. NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service, the Body Image and Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment Service (BETRS). State-wide services are the Victorian Dual Disability Service and the Victorian Transcultural Mental Health. The Acute Inpatient Service includes 5 beds designated as the Koori State-wide Inpatient Service and linked to the Victorian Aboriginal Health Service.

2.POSITION PURPOSE

Under the direction of the  Manager Community Mental Health the  Group Program and Brief Interventions Team Leader will support the ongoing development and delivery of the service which includes: groups programs, one to one brief interventions in the following domains: Psychological Interventions, physical health interventions and peer support work (Carer peer support and consumer peer support) psychosocial interventions including (but not limited to) one to one and group , Coordinating team activities and actively participating in the delivery of the program. Supporting the Intensive Care Packages (Enhanced Care Clinicians across both Hawthorn and Clarendon Clinics).

The position also provides high level clinical expertise in relation to psychological and group interventions for consumers presenting with multiple complex problems including serious mental illness, co-morbid high prevalence disorders, associated social relationship issues, everyday living skill needs and dual diagnosis, supporting other clinicians in the delivery of high quality mental health care.   

3.POSITION DUTIES

  • Triage internal referrals for one to one and group based brief psychological and healthy lifestyles interventions.
  • Co-ordinate the team activities ensuring that group based and one to one therapies within the community sector utilising brief intervention techniques and healthy lifestyles programs are implemented.
  • Provide best practice/evidence based interventions for consumer presenting with high prevalence disorders (e.g. anxiety, depression, PTSD, psychosis)
  • Provide best practice/evidence based interventions for consumers presenting with moderate/high prevalence disorders (e.g. CBT or ACT for psychosis).
  • Support Enhanced Care Clinicians achieve KPI’s for the Intensive Care Package Program
  • Work within the Strengths Model of recovery orientated practice, build a therapeutic alliance with the consumer and family/carers and actively engage them in the planning, delivery and evaluation of their care.
  • Display high level clinical expertise and leadership in the utilisation of discipline-specific skills as appropriate and as required by consumers, their family/carers and the service.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the Group Program and Brief Intervention team.
  • Assist in the provision of primary, secondary and tertiary consultation services, community development and education, liaison and linkage to other agencies that also provide support to people with mental illnesses as required.
  • Work collaboratively within the multi-disciplinary team providing leadership to clinical practice within the mental health service.
  • Support Clinicians in the maintenance of all documentation in line with SVMH policies, including clinical documentation, outcome measures and CMI reporting.
  • Lead the evaluation of the program and participate in professional development and ongoing learning opportunities including discipline specific training and research.
  • Participate in service development and quality improvement activities around the use of brief psychological and group based interventions including the development of policies and procedures.
  • Provide supervision to staff as well as students within the relevant discipline.
