PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

To perform transport of dialysis patients to and from the dialysis clinic and to any appointments as directed by Clinic staff; to provide support to the nursing staff in the dialysis clinic by performing non-nursing duties relating to direct and indirect patient care and to assist the Dialysis Clinic Manager in any other tasks as directed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To treat patients and all staff with courtesy and dignity and provide assistance in and out of the bus
• Pick up and deliveries to and from the hospital as required (personal and goods)
• Ensure Patient Transport bus is kept clean at all times (externally and internally)
• Ensure the bus is serviced as per manufactures’ recommendation and is always maintained in a road worthy condition.
• Assist with repairs in the clinic as directed by the Dialysis Clinic Manager
• Help to maintain cleanliness of the clinic externally as directed by the Dialysis Clinic Manager
• Ensure and promote a safe, secure and healthy working environment as detailed in the Occupational Health and Safety policy.
• Participate in Quality Assurance activities as required by the Dialysis Clinic Manager
• Assist with all tasks as requested by the Dialysis Clinic Manager when not engaged in the primary function of patient transportation
• Attend to the re-stocking of consumables in the stock room and trolley/s as required for daily operation of the Clinic
• Participate in stock take
• Ensure correct placement of deliveries (stock, linen, etc)

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to operate within a multidisciplinary team
• Knowledge of Work Health and Safety as it relates to the role within the facility
• Knowledge of Infection Control / Hygiene principles and implementation of this knowledge into daily practice
• Understanding of the Quality improvement process and risk management obligations
• Work as a team member
• Holder of a driver’s license
   

Essential Qualifications of the position:

• Previous driving experience
• Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement initiatives.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
   

Desirable:

• Previous experience in patient transport within a health care environment and a sound understanding of patients suffering from acute illness and Work Health and Safety Issues relating to the position
